Castleview came from 0-2 down to overcome the challenge of UCC A 3-2 in their Premier clash at O’Sullivan Park over the weekend.

It was a terrific recovery from the View, who had the upper hand in the first half, but yet, entered the break at 0-1 down.

The students on the other hand will be disappointed about leaving a two-goal advantage slip away.

The View pressed from the off and Daniel O’Donoghue’s effort to reach James Green with a cross was intercepted promptly by Kasper Reszka.

A half-chance at the other end did fall for UCC when Timmy Sexton seized on to a ball over the top, but he rifled over.

And when Dalian Wall played it short to Ciaran Dennehy, he moved it on to Wayne Buckley, who sees his effort on goal, blocked by Michael Daly.

The View continued to apply the pressure and from Stuart Murphy’s delivery into the box, David Burke pounced to scoop over near goal.

And when play shifted to the other end, Dalian Wall needed to be sharp to get in an important tackle on James Wheeler near goal.

The View then squandered two chances in quick succession as both Ciaran Dennehy and Wayne Buckley failed to force home after Kasper Reszka produced two good blocks to maintain parity.

Minutes later, Stuart Murphy pounced on to a loose ball, but from outside the box, he failed to get force on his effort as Reszka picked with ease.

James Green showed neat control before knocking it on for Daniel O’Donoghue, but his efforts to reach David Golden was snuffed out by a solid tackle from Robbie Coughlan.

Then, James Green controlled before swivelling to drill narrowly wide.

Daniel O’Donoghue then made Reszka work to save from his crisply struck effort.

Although Castleview were on top, Enrico Girelli had a chance, but from Malachy Harte’s free kick, he failed to get a vital touch near goal to waste a certain opportunity.

The View’s Daniel O’Donoghue had two chances after that.

The first was a decent effort that flew narrowly wide before his second attempt minutes later was tipped over by Reszka to concede a corner.

And when play shifted to the other end, Enrico Girelli was denied by a solid block from Dalian Wall.

But, despite the View’s control of the half, UCC A nosed in front when Malachy Harte latched on to a ball into space before drilling low past James Nagle to hand the students the lead on 38.

With just seconds to the break, the View had a chance to level proceedings, but from a favourable position, Stuart Murphy helped wide near goal.

With the wind behind them now, the students threatened and with just minutes into the second period Girelli fired wide after collecting from Sexton.

And when James Wheeler played in Sexton, he was denied by a solid intervention by David Burke.

But, the students doubled their advantage and it arrived from a quick break as Timmy Sexton got away on the right before cutting inside to slam past James Nagle on 53.

The View’s problems at this stage were further compounded when Graham Carroll was shown a straight red in the 55th minute.

After that, the students were unlucky not to have nosed further in front when Ethan Novarro drilled agonisingly wide from Wheeler’s pass.

A chance fell for the View then, but Stuart Murphy was denied by a solid block from Ethan Novarro.

But, despite UCC’s numerical advantage, the View showed true grit in getting back into the game when from Stuart Murphy’s corner, substitute Jamie Mason sent his powerful header, crashing into the net on 70 minutes.

A response from UCC A then saw Neff sending his cracking effort narrowly past the post.

Castleview refused to be bowed and when a ball landed for James Green, he produced a magnificent finish when he dinked over a helpless Reszka to make it honours even again on 75.

Five minutes later, James Green was in the right place at the right time again when he controlled before once again finding the target with another neat finish near the end – 3-2 to Castleview.
