The Munster Senior Cup continued this weekend with games across Cork and the statement result of the Round of 16 was Ringmahon Rangers defeating League of Ireland side Treaty United 2-1 in extra time in Mayfield.

College Corinthians, Rockmount, Leeds AFC, Cobh Ramblers, Cork City, Kerry FC, and Waterford FC are also into the quarter-finals, which are set to be staged on the weekend ending February 1.

Ringmahon Rangers recorded one of their biggest ever victories by coming from behind and getting the better of Treaty United in unfamiliar surroundings.

Aidan Foley went full strength with his team that included former Cork City and Bohemians striker Ethon Varian, goalkeeper Eric Grimes, and two-time FAI Intermediate Cup winner Nathan Broderick.

It was scoreless at the break, and the visitors took the lead on the hour mark through Scott Murphy. Jack Carins equalised in the 84th minute, and Anthony McAlavey got the winner from the spot during the second period of extra-time.

Ringmahon Rangers reward is a home draw with Cork City in the quarter-finals, following their win over Midleton FC on Friday at Knockgriffin Park.

The Rebel Army downed the reigning Munster Senior League Premier Division champions with their U20s, with Charlie Hanover firing in the winner at the end of the first half.

Friday also saw Rockmount get the better of Fermoy AFC, and Eoin Murphy single-handedly put last year’s beaten finalists into the hat by scoring four goals, with one coming from the penalty spot.

The Mount will face reigning FAI Intermediate Cup champions College Corinthians next, following their victory over Blarney United on Saturday afternoon at Castletreaure. Gary Hackett went full strength with his selection, including Shane Hallahan, a new signing from Midleton FC, a goalkeeper with experience of the League of Ireland after stints with Cobh Ramblers and Treaty United.

Ian Turner got the winner in the 12th minute.

Leeds AFC are also still in the competition, after overcoming Lakewood Athletic in Ballyvolane on Saturday afternoon. Dale Tynan netted a brace, and a big finish was set up when Evan Murphy pulled one back in the 64th minute.

Their reward is a home draw with Kerry FC, following their 2-0 win at the expense of Cobh Wanderers in Tralee last Friday. Colin Healy’s side were in total control and got the job done through goals from Sean O’Connell and Sean McGrath.

Waterford FC are also into the quarter-finals after overcoming Riverstown FC. They will host Cobh Ramblers following their 3-0 victory over Leeside United on Little Island.
