The 100th Muskerry GAA annual convention was held recently in Macroom on what was a special day.

Macroom was the venue where the first divisional meeting of Muskerry GAA was held in the town hall in 1925.

It was presided over by the vice-chairman Dan Cronin in the unavoidable absence of the outgoing chairman.

One of the main items for discussion 100 years ago was the spread of football to the areas west of Macroom particularly in Clondrohid, Ballyvourney and Inchigeela.

A century on and a large attendance turned up for the 2025 convention in what was a low-key meeting with very little talking points.

The entire agenda including the secretary’s report, treasurer’s report, chairman’s address and referee’s report were processed in relatively quick time.

Outgoing Muskerry GAA secretary Enda Linehan congratulated Aghabullogue on completing a second double in three seasons with the Coachford-based outfit winning the McCarthy Insurance Group PIFC title and the Co-Op SuperStores IAHC crown this year.

There was also glory from a Muskerry perspective at county championship level with Ballinora winning the McCarthy Insurance Group IAFC trophy for the first time after getting the better of Ilen Rovers after a replay.

That final will be remembered for a long time to come in what was a contest for the ages with Kevin Werner’s late goal in extra-time giving the title to Ballinora.

Both Muskerry teams reached the final of their respective seeded section and a game away from the championship proper.

The footballers would lose out to Duhallow and in doing so lost their grip on the Tadhg Crowley Cup. The hurlers were beaten but not outclassed by Imokilly in their decider.

Finally, there’s a change at the top of Muskerry GAA for the 2026 season with chairman John Feeney’s five-year term having concluded at the convention that took place recently. The Dripsey clubman is staying involved with the board as he will revert back to his old role as secretary.

Vice-chairman Ed Warren has made the step up to the main position with the Kilmurry clubman very experienced and knowledgeable.
