Cork fighter Steven (The Irish Takeover) Cairns will be back in action when he will be fighting in the Vaillant Live Arena in Derby on Saturday night in what will be his 13th professional fight of his career where he has yet to taste defeat.
The 23 year-old Lightweight, Cairns whose opponent is still yet to be confirmed, has been working hard in training camp for the last 13 weeks putting in plenty of hard graft with his trainer Dave Coldwell, and getting in some great sparring sessions with Dublin’s unbeaten Super Lightweight Pierce O’Leary in this camp in Sheffield.
Steven was supposed to fight on the undercard of heavyweight’s Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte's card in the New Coop Arena in Manchester last weekend, however, that card was cancelled when that fight was called off.
Cairns last fight was against English man Kirk Stevens at the Planet Ice Arena in Altrincham in Trafford, Greater Manchester and he put in another vintage performance with a fifth round technical stoppage and he celebrated with his victory with his usual signature backflip.
That fight was live on the Zone and had both Carl Frampton and Tony Bellew singing his praises afterwards, with Frampton calling it the performance of the night, which is such great praise from two former world champions.
“I’ve been in camp now for 13 weeks working hard as I was supposed to be in action last week but that event was cancelled,” Stephen said.
“I was meant to fight on the December 13th on the undercard of the Derek Chisora card in the New Coop Arena in Manchester, however, Chisora and Dillian Whyte got cancelled and unfortunately the whole card and all the fight’s that meant to be on the card were called off.
“But that is the nature of the boxing business, as if the main fight is cancelled, the whole card will be in trouble, however, thankfully, my team found me a new date to keep active, as they have a big 2026 mapped out for me.
“I’ve been sparring Pierce O’Leary this camp which has been class, because, O’Leary is an exceptional fighter, and now the hard work has been put in.
"My plan is to go 13-0 and added another knockout to that record, which will set me up nicely for a title fight next March in Dublin,” Cairns added.
The Sheffield based Cairns is in great hands as he is trained by the renowned Dave Coldwell, who has been in the corner of former Cruiserweight Word champion Bellew and heavyweight Chisora.
He is also part of one of the best promoters in the business, Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, so his future is very bright.
However, he can’t look further than this upcoming fight and if he can stay unbeaten he can look forward to fighting for titles next year.
