Mayfield have turned to one of their former players to guide the hurling team next season.

Donal Hurley has been confirmed as the new boss as the northside club look to bounce back in 2026.

The city outfit were unable to avoid going through the trapdoor this year after demotion from the Co-Op SuperStores IAHC following a loss to Youghal in the relegation play-off. They didn’t win a competitive game this year.

Hurley has built up an impressive CV having been involved with many winning teams in his adopted club Éire Óg at both underage level and adult level.

He was manager of the Muskerry side when they claimed the Co-Op SuperStores IAHC title in the 2020 season beating near neighbours Aghabullogue in the final.

Hurley will be joined on the management ticket by Glen Rovers club man Jim McCarthy.

The latter was coach of Kanturk when they won three championships in the 2017/18 season.

They won the PIHC, Munster and All-Ireland titles while being coached by McCarthy.

Mayfield will be one of the contenders for the Co-Op SuperStores Premier JHC crown in 2026.

In their championship group, they will meet Argideen Rangers, Barryroe and St Finbarr's second team.

Mayfield will be in the RedFM Division 6 Hurling League next year after they lost all nine games in Division 5 this year.
