Gaelcolaiste Mhuire AG camogie side lose out in Munster final to a more experienced St Anne's side
The Gaelcolaiste Mhuire AG side that lost out to St Anne’s Community College Killaloe at the University of Limerick.
St Anne's, Killaloe 1-11
Gaelcolaiste Mhuire AG 1-4
There was disappointment for Gaelcholáiste Mhuire AG's camogie team as St Anne's Community College, Killaloe claimed the Munster Colleges Intermediate A camogie title at the University of Limerick.
It was a very brave effort from a youthful AG side as St Anne's made their experience count on the day, claiming victory in very blustery conditions.
The game began in the worst manner possible for the northside school as a long Siobhán McMahon free was flicked to the net by Caoimhe Maloney inside the opening minute.
This score was added to by a McMahon free and one from play off the stick of Mya Leyden to leave it 1-2 to 0-0.
The AG gradually began to settle into the game, Lily Ní Chearúlláin nullifying the influence of 2025 Clare minor Lucy Pearl around the middle while Killaloe struggled to break down the defensive set-up of their opponents.
Ali Nic Cárthaigh slotted two frees from distance to get the AG off the mark, while McMahon did likewise to keep the Killaloe scoreboard ticking over (1-4 to 0-2).
Midway through the first half the AG were thrown a lifeline.
Caoimhe Ní Aodha won a free in her own half.
A long delivery from Nic Cárthaigh was reacted to quickest by Kelly Ní Éadromáin, who snapped an unstoppable shot past Clare minor net-minder Áine Boland to leave it 1-4 to 1-2 and the AG were back in the game.
The half ended with a trio of unanswered points from Killaloe, Dani Jennings, McMahon and Tina O'Shea all notching points to lead 1-7 to 1-2 at half time.
The second half was a low-scoring affair.
Half time substitute Emma Neary registered for Killaloe, but Nic Cárthaigh responded for the AG from another free. (1-8 to 1-3)
A string of highlight-reel saves from Sorcha Ní Shíocháin in the AG goal kept her side in the game between the 40th and 50th minute as Killaloe tried to kill the game as a contest.
However, the northside girls worked hard with Giselle Ní Éafaigh particularly impressive in her constant willingness to fight for loose ball trying to prevent the Killaloe half back line from gaining a foothold.
McMahon scored three further frees to extend the lead for the Clare side as the Mon girls tired towards the finish, with Jane Ní Bhriain Gabriel responding with one for the AG, however, the Clare side proved a step too far for the brave Cork side.
