Midleton CBS will take on Nenagh CBS in the Dr Harty Cup quarter-final on Wednesday, January 7, after the draws were made on Monday.
Aiming to win their first Harty title since 2019 and standing alone as the sole Cork representative to reach the knockout stages, Midleton will have to navigate 2023/24 champions Nenagh CBS if they’re to reach the semi-final stage.
Should they defeat Nenagh in the quarters, they’ll face either Thurles CBS, last year’s Harty champions, or De La Salle of Waterford, who they met in the group stages. The semi-final clashes are set for the following Wednesday, January 14, while the final is pencilled in for Saturday, January 31.
Midleton CBS finished their group stage campaign unbeaten, after finishing level with St Colman’s College Fermoy – 0-19 each – on the opening day, before seeing off CBS High School Clonmel, and going on to defeat De La Salle in the final group meeting by eight points.

Goals were key in their two victories, Killeagh’s Cormac Deane notching two goals early in the second half of their victory over High School Clonmel. He was assisted by Senan Carroll for both goals. Carroll has been in serious form for Midleton’s U21s this season, having amassed 1-5 in his last three appearances in black and white, all from the bench.
He’ll be in action this weekend against Shandrum in the county U21 decider, alongside CBS teammates Matthew McSweeney and Cian Stack.
Against De La Salle, goals from Carrigtwohill starlet Sam Ring and Midleton CBS’s top scorer Fionn Daly – who finished with 1-6 in that victory over the Waterford school – saw them over the finish line as they topped Group 2.

Daly is Midleton’s current top scorer with 1-22 across the opening three games, while Tom C Walsh has been a handful in the middle third, and Lisgoold’s Colm Garde has been very impressive since his return from injury, and will be key in their quarter-final next month against Nenagh.
The Tipp school also finished with the same record of two wins and one draw as Midleton posted – though they let the chance of an opening round win over St Flannan’s slip, after allowing the Clare school to come back from 10 points down.
Eoghan Doughan has stood out above all, he’s already scored 3-25 for Nenagh to date. A scorer of 1-4 in Tipperary’s All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship win over Kilkenny last year, and part of their U20 All-Ireland winning team in 2025, Doughan notched 2-3 from play in their demolition of Cashel Community School in the final group fixture last month.

Patrick Ryan and Paul Cahalan have also caught the eye, scoring 2-1 and 1-4 respectively as they defeated Limerick heavyweights Ardscoil Rís in the second round.
