Ballincollig AFC are mourning the immeasurable loss of its long-serving president Vincent Drumm, who passed away last week following a period of declining health.
His death marks the end of an extraordinary era for the club, a 40-plus-year legacy defined by dedication, humility, friendship, and service.
Drumm became involved with Ballincollig AFC over four decades ago and, from the very beginning, immersed himself in every aspect of club life. He assisted managers from underage to senior level, helped with fundraising and events, and his commitment was unwavering. His match reports, produced during his many years as PRO, became a staple for players, parents, and supporters.
Yet for all the roles he took on, he was happiest working behind the scenes, unnoticed but always appreciated. When Ballincollig AFC moved to the Landing Field he took it upon himself to maintain the grounds.
He lined pitches, put up nets, set out corner flags, cleaned dressing rooms, and ensured the gear was ready for players on match day. He loved sport, his club and the community.
He was vice-president for several years before being appointed club president, a role he held with deep honour and pride. He was a true Ballincollig.
Beyond his club involvement, Vincent was also a talented player in his own right. He was capped while playing in goal for the Irish Defence Forces team.
Among the many memories Vincent cherished, one stood out: witnessing Ballincollig’s youth team claim a national cup title, a moment he often recalled with great joy.
He was far more than a club official, he was a close friend, a confidant, and a constant presence. His friendship extended well beyond soccer. Though his own family were based in Rathdrum, Vincent became part of the Hogan family over the years, forging bonds that brought comfort, laughter, and connection.

"There are no words to explain how much of a loss Vince is going to be to me,” said Geraldene McNamara. "I have known Vincent for over 30 years, and we became friends in and outside soccer. It was my honour to look after Vincent in his later years.
Beyond his achievements, he leaves a legacy of service, humility, and friendship. Ballincollig AFC is a stronger, kinder, and more united club because of him. His impact will be felt every time a team lines out on a pitch he once prepared with such care.

Chairman Gordon Murphy posted about the sad passing of Vincent.
“It is with profound regret that all at Ballincollig AFC learnt of the passing of our esteemed President Mr Vincent Drumm after an illness.
“Vincie was quite simply the lifeblood of our club. He served the club in every capacity imaginable over the course of 40 years. His enthusiasm for every team from academy up to adult teams was unmatched. His energy and commitment to every aspect of the club and community has proved to be inspirational.
“Vincie’s life was one of service. He came to Ballincollig through his career in the Irish Defence Forces and he served his country in that capacity for 38 years. His service to our club as a volunteer continued right up to his recent illness and was unparalleled.
He leaves behind him an amazing legacy and all of us involved in this club owe him a huge debt of gratitude.
“Our thoughts are with all of Vincent's family and his many, many close friends.”
As the club mourns his passing, it also celebrates a life lived with purpose and generosity. Vincent will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever part of the Ballincollig AFC story.
May he rest in peace.
