UCC Demons have announced that they have released their American players with immediate effect following last weekend’s double header defeats to Ballincollig and Limerick Celtics.

The 90-72 loss at Limerick Celtics sent the alarm bells ringing at the Sunday’s Well club and Shariff Black and Jarvis Doles were both released as club chairman Michael O’Leary is adamant they have got to stop the rot.

“As chairman for many years it doesn’t give me any great pleasure to tell players they no longer have jobs but after Sunday’s defeat to Limerick Celtics Blue Demons executive committee felt this run of defeats couldn’t continue,” said O’Leary.

The present international break gave Demons some time to take the appropriate action and O’Leary is hoping the ship will be steadied in the coming weeks.

“We have responsibility to coaches, players, sponsors and of course a very loyal fanbase that are feeling the poor run of results this season,” added Michael.

Demons have lost nine consecutive games that included getting eliminated from the National Cup and O’Leary believes the campaign to date has been disappointing for all concerned.

“We do not want to go down the road of pointing fingers as we are all in this together and it’s only the players that can get us out of this present miserable run.”

Demons are just finalizing the signatures of two new- professionals and O’Leary is hoping they bring a freshness to the squad.

“When you sign professionals, it is always a gamble as you have lots of things to take into account like settling into a new environment and so far this season, we haven’t had the rub of the green for one reason or another.”

The other Cork club Energywise Ireland Neptune are also in deep trouble at the foot of the table but when contacted no changes are reported to have been made to their squad.

Neptune just like Demons have only won one game this season and their derby Super League clash against their great rivals on December 27 at the Neptune stadium could well have huge significance in the battle to keep their Super League status.
