Cork professional boxer Cathal Crowley will be back in the ring again next Thursday night when he fights southpaw Marcelo Fabian Bzowski, who hails from Argentina, at the Excelsior Sports Club in Staffordshire, Birmingham.

Crowley’s last outing was at the JB Promotion event for the IBU Light Heavyweight title last month, where he lost his first fight of his professional career on points to Kerry native Kevin Cronin in ten tough rounds at the National Arena.

This fight Crowley will move back down to his normal weight, in a Super Middleweight six-round bout and he will make his return to the Excelsior Sports Club where he beat English-based Iranian fighter Bahadur Karami on points in September 2024.

Bzowski is a very experienced fighter and has over 46 fights to his name. However, his record reads 11 wins, 32 losses and three draws.

PERFECT

Cathal had the perfect record of 7-0 before that Cronin fight. Although he was very disappointed to lose his first fight, he was back training in the Celtic Warriors gym in Dublin the following Monday.

This is a testament of his mindset as he took the loss on the chin and gave credit to Cronin for winning the title, however, even though he and his corner thought they did enough to win the fight on the night, he quickly moved on to get ready for this fight.

In his preparations for this fight, Crowley has had quality sparring with English light heavyweight sensation, the flamboyant English fighter and unbeaten Ben Whittaker, Dublin lad Bobby Flood, and follow Cork fighter Shane Cunningham.

Crowley is eager to get back on track by putting in a good performance in Birmingham and although he is facing a really experienced and good fighter in Bzowski, he will want to get back in the mix of fighting for titles next year.

“My preparations for this fight have gone very well, as I was back in the gym the Monday after the last fight, so I never stopped training,” Cathal said.

“Yes, I was disappointed with the result of my last fight in the National Arena, as both my team and myself thought that I had done enough to deserve the decision.

“I’ve had great sparring with Ben Whitaker, Bobby Flood and Shane Cunningham this camp.

They are all great fighters in their own right and I was delighted to get such quality sparring done for this fight.

“My opponent is an experienced boxer, with a lot more fights than me, but I plan to use the experience gained from my last fight to get a big win.

SHOWCASE

“I boxed in the venue last year and I’m really looking forward to returning and showcasing how much I’ve improved since the last time I was there.

“I learned loads in my last fight, but the biggest thing was being able to fight hard for 10 rounds, so fighting six rounds for this fight will be no problem for me, as I being sparring eight to 10 rounds at my training camp.

“My plan for this fight is to put on a devastating performance and try get the knockout that will definitely get me back on track.

“Going forward, looking ahead I want to fight for titles and hopefully headline a show in Cork sometime next year,” Crowley added.
