Millstreet will put itself on the international stage next summer after it was announced that the inaugural FEI Eventing World Championship U25 event will take place at the Cork venue from July 22-26 in 2026.
This brand-new classification is for riders aged under 25 years and will be run at CCI4*-S level, the world body FEI awarded the initial hosting to Millstreet International Horse Trials.
This is the first eventing championship on Irish soil since the Duggan family welcomed the FEI Young Rider and Junior European Eventing Championship in 2017 at their spacious Green Glens Arena and parkland cross-country course at Drishane Castle.
“It’s great to be hosting a championship in Ireland which will help showcase the sport and Irish horses to the world,” said Millstreet’s director Thomas Duggan.
“It has long been felt that it is a big step up from Young Riders to a senior championship and this new concept, which is open to the world, should be a valuable experience and provide an exciting competition for talented under-25 riders”, he said.
“We are very grateful to our stakeholders, to Horse Sport Ireland for their support, as well as that of our invaluable loyal sponsors.”
Millstreet will also run competitions at its usual earlier date, May 28-31, 2026, when there will be four CCI-S competitions at 1*, 2*, 3* and 4* level.
The July event will include CCI4*-S, CCI3*-S and CCI-L at 2*, 3* and 4*.
The Duggan family’s magnificent Green Glens Arena has been hosting equestrian events for more than half a century and international eventing in Drishane Castle since 2015.
Millstreet is popular with competitors for the expansive facilities which include eight all-weather arenas, beautifully prepared galloping cross-country courses, stunning views and its traditional warm welcome.
