Ruthless Buttevant put Shamrocks to the sword in Munster Club JFC quarter-final

Buttevant powered past Waterford side Shamrocks in the AIB Munster Club JFC quarter-final at Cappoquin Logistics Fraher Field in Dungarvan on Saturday afternoon.
The recently crowned McCarthy Insurance Group Premier JFC winners started well and never looked back after that to win by 25 points.
It was a majestic display from Joey Hanlon’s charges as they booked a semi-final spot with little fuss.
They were against the wind in the opening 30 minutes, but despite that, they held a 10-point buffer at the interval. It was all too easy for Buttevant in the second half. They did what they had to do regardless of the quality of the opposition.
Buttevant will now face Ahane of Limerick in the last four in two weeks at a Cork venue.
They set out their stall early with a green flag after three minutes, David Hanlon did the hard work as he set up his brother Conor Hanlon with the latter finishing to the net from close range even if there was a bit of luck involved.
Aaron Horgan pointed for Buttevant before Shamrocks did get a two-pointer from play through their main forward Billy Hynes.
It didn’t affect the flow of the game with the Cork side in control despite playing against the wind in the opening 30 minutes.
Buttevant tacked on six unanswered points to lead 1-7 to 0-2 after 15 minutes. Conor Hanlon with three super points while Seamus Madigan came up from defence to raise a white flag, which was a standout.
After a lull in the scoring, Joey Hanlon’s charges extended their advantage out to nine points when John O’Neill kicked over a great score from a difficult angle. It was one-way traffic with the winning team dominant in every sector.
Buttevant sub Kevin Sheehan, on for the injured Mark Lenahan, and Michael O’Neill, bisected the posts. In Shamrock’s first meaningful attack since their first score, they got their second score when centre-back Shane Roche slotted over, 1-10 to 0-3 at half-time.
Buttevant hammered home their healthy advantage with three quick-fire Conor Hanlon white flags on the resumption.
A second green flag from the Cork outfit arrived after 36 minutes when David Hanlon finished off a sweeping team move, 2-13 to 0-3.
The first two-pointer for Buttevant came a minute later when the excellent Michael O’Neill raised an orange flag followed by another one, this time from David Hanlon, 2-17 to 0-3.
Kieran Crawford did tap over an easy free for Shamrocks until that man David Hanlon finished beautifully to the back of the net to push his team 3-17 to 0-4 clear with 18 minutes remaining.
Aaron Trimm pointed for Buttevant followed by a David Hanlon two-point free after 50 minutes.
The closing stages naturally enough petered out. The sides traded points as Buttevant power on.
