Youth Soccer: Crosshaven beat Leeds in a Daly Industrial Supplies U17 League 2 encounter at Leeds Park.

Leeds 3

Crosshaven 7

Crosshaven put in a five-star second-half display at Leeds Park to take all three points in their Daly Industrial Supplies U17 League 2 encounter against League leaders Leeds last Saturday morning.

After all the heavy rain in the past few days, I have to compliment Leeds groundsman Mattie Murphy and the committee for all the work they did to keep the pitch in pristine condition.

Leeds led 2-1 at half-time thanks to goals from Evan O’Leary and Caelan McCarthy with Crosshaven's goal coming from Jake Farrissey. The visitors levelled when Oscar Mansfield scored from the penalty spot.

However, Poitr Storbanda restored Leeds' lead a minute later.

The game was level again, 3-3, in the 56th minute when Farrissey grabbed his second.

They then turned the tide with goals from Man of the Match Daniel O’Keeffe, two from Sean Javiers and a late Fionn Noonan effort.

The home side got the perfect start when Evan O’Leary latched onto a huge kick-out from keeper Cian Quinn and calmly slotted home.

Their lead didn’t last long as Crosshaven’s captain Oscar Mansfield released Jake Farrissey in the eighth minute and he kept his composure to steer his effort past Quinn.

The hosts came close to restoring their lead three minutes later when Ben Cuthbert played a delightful ball to O’Leary, but he dragged his effort wide.

They did go 2-1 up six minutes later. Caelan McCarthy floated in a dangerous corner and his effort flew into the roof of the net.

Leeds could have increased their lead before the break when Luke Martin showed some great feet to dance his way into the box, however, Hugh Murphy in the Crosshaven goal pushed his effort around the post.

It was the visitors who made the brighter start to the second half.

When Mansfield was upended in the Leeds box they were awarded a penalty. He took the responsibility and calmly sent Quinn the wrong way to level.

Leeds were back in front 3-2 two minutes later. Piotr Storybanda curled his effort into the net from the edge of the box.

They came agonisingly close to doubling their lead in the 55th minute, McCarthy cut in from the right wing but his saw his effort crash off the crossbar.

Instead of being 4-2 up, a minute later, Crosshaven levelled when Farrissey was first to react to a loose ball in the Leeds box. Crosshaven took the lead from the boot of Daniel O’Keeffe in the 59th minute.

Things got worse for Leeds a minute later when Sean Jeffers poked home an O’Keeffe corner: 5-3.

Leeds were now struggling to contain the visitors and when O’Keffee floated in another dangerous corner in the 77th minute, Jeffers was on hand to score from close range.

Crosshaven finished the game by adding another goal in the 88th minute when substitute Fionn Noonan fired in a free.
