Douglas Hall made it a year to remember as they captured three domestic trophies following their 3-0 win over Lakewood in the Steve Quinn Cup Final which was played at a very wet and drizzly St Colman's Park on Saturday night.
Douglas Hall had already captured the premier league title and the Challenge Cup earlier in the season, and capped off the final game in the CWSSL Women’s league and cup campaign with another trophy to add to their already bursting trophy cabinet.
It took some time for both teams to settle into any sort of rhythm with play going from end to end in the opening minutes with the first real chance on goal coming in the eighth minute with Douglas Hall’s Rebekah Grant’s 20 yard effort being well covered by Grainne Costello in the Lakewood goal.
Douglas Hall were starting to come forward and create chances for themselves with Rebekah Grant’s cross on the far side finding Lily O’Keeffe whose effort in front of goal was well saved by the Lakewood keeper at the expense of a corner.

Chances fell to Douglas Hall’s Rebekah Grant and Lily O’Keeffe before Lakewood won their first corner in the 13th minute which was well cleared by the Douglas Hall defence as Lakewood were beginning to come forward.
In the 22nd minute, Lakewood’s Laura Lynch’s effort from 25 yards was well held by Hollie Bruton in the Douglas Hall goal but less than a minute later Douglas Hall took the lead when Lily O’Keeffe’s effort was initially blocked by the Lakewood keeper the ball falling neatly to Mary O’Sullivan, who fired the ball into the far corner from 15 yards for the opening score.
Five minutes later Douglas Hall doubled their score courtesy of Rebekah Grant's 35 yard free kick which went straight into the Lakewood net.
Douglas Hall had additional chances from Lauren Murphy from a free kick on the edge of the D and Rebekah Grant, who saw her effort land on the roof of the Lakewood net.
Lakewood pressed forward in an effort to get back into the game with the Douglas Hall keeper Hollie Bruton doing well to gather the ball ahead of an advancing Chloe O’Reilly late in the first half.
However, it was Douglas Hall who held a seemingly comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.
The second half was very tightly contested with very little in the way of chances as both defences were doing an excellent job in containing any forward moves with the first attempt in the second half coming in the 60th minute falling to Lakewood’s Sophie Murphy O’Leary, whose free kick was punched away by Hollie Bruton in the Douglas Hall goal.
Additional chances fell to Douglas Hall’s Maeve O’Leary and Rebecca Kearney which were cleared by the Lakewood keeper Grainne Costello, while Lakewood attempted to press forward coming close on a couple of occasions, but were denied by Hollie Bruton in the Douglas Hall goal.

Chances also fell to Douglas Hall’s Maeve O’Leary and Sarah Dawe late in the half which were well covered by Grainne Costello in the Lakewood goal as Douglas continued to look for a third goal.
The game was put beyond the reach of Lakewood in the 84th minute when a good passing team move forward resulted in Rebekah Grant slotting the ball into the Lakewood net from well inside the area as Douglas Hall claimed their third trophy of the season.
The Player of the Match Award was presented to Douglas Hall’s Rebekah Grant, while Sarah Scanlon of the CWSSL presented Douglas Hall captain Emma McCarthy with the Steve Quinn Cup amid celebrations from the Douglas Hall camp.
