Glanmire hoping it will be a day and night of celebrations

It’s going to be a busy day today for Glanmire Ladies Football Club.

First, they take on Kilmurry Ibrickane from Clare in the Munster Senior B ladies football final at Mallow at 1pm.

Then this evening they will be hosting a dinner at the Vienna Woods Hotel to mark the 25th anniversary of the founding of the club.

No doubt they will be hoping to add another cup to the silverware that will be on display on the night.

To reach the final they had a good win over Cahir in the quarter-final, before taking on Na Gael in the semi-final last weekend.

Lucy Greene, Aishling McAllen (2), Orlaith Roche, Abbie O’Mahony, and Ally McCarthy all found the back of the net as they made home advantage count, running out winners by 6-15 to 0-4.

This group of players has been together now for some time and have risen through the ranks of Cork football from a junior side up to senior, and enjoyed plenty of success along the way.

They hold Cork championship titles at junior and intermediate levels, before adding the senior B crown to their trophy cabinet this year.

They also went on to win Munster and All-Ireland junior and intermediate championships and will be determined to add a senior Munster one to the trophy cabinet tomorrow.

They are a competitive side with Conor Quinlan coaching them for the last few years.

He joined the club in 2022 and has seen them progress from there to win the treble at intermediate level, before enjoying Senior B championship success this season.

“To be honest, it’s a decent competition and for us we are still learning about our players as we have a very good squad but getting to the final after defeating Clonakility was a huge plus for us,” Quinlan said.

“Winning the final against O’Donovan Rossa was another huge achievement as they are another good club with quality players.”

He will be hoping his side can build on that success tomorrow, in what will be a difficult game for the Cork side.

Any team that beats Ballymacarbry in a semi-final is one that you simply can’t take for granted.

Ballymacarbry have been one of the top sides in Munster now for some time, and Glanmire will know that it’s going to be a battle against any side that beat them.

Ellie Hanrahan is just one of the players they will need to keep an eye on as she hit 2-2 in their county final win.

But Glanmire are not short of talented players themselves and know all about winning big games.

They won’t be found wanting when it comes to effort, and even when down a few points they never panic and keep going.

As well as the aforementioned Evie Twomey, Ellen Baker, and Ava Fitzgerald will be others they will look to today.

They will be hoping it starts a special day of celebrations for the club and they get to celebrate on the double that night.
