Magpies aim for U17 Premier League title with 7-0 win over Youghal United

Youth Soccer: Leeds U17 League 2 side put in a terrific team display when they beat Mogeely 6-0 at Leeds Park.

There were goals galore in the Daly Industrial Supplies U17 Premier League over the weekend.

Midleton showed why they were tipped as title favourites at the start of the season with a superb victory against Youghal United, Passage got their first League win of the season against St Mary’s and Carrigaline United beat Leeds.

The Magpies swapped places with Youghal who sat in second place at the start of the day. Shane Mackessy’s side had Eduard Pidoyma, Ryan Cremin and Cillian Mansworth on the scoresheet twice with Patrick Adedokun also hitting the back of the net in their 7-0 win against Youghal at Knockgriffin. They now sit in second place three points behind Douglas Hall with a game in hand.

Passage had to come from behind twice to overcome St Mary’s at very wet Rockenham Park, Callum Murphy gave the Saint’s a early 12th minute lead, but Killian McCabe levelled the game 1-1 in the 23rd minute. Murphy restored Mary’s lead 2-1 three minutes later. 

However, Passage’s Lee Maher O’Donovan made sure the game was level 2-2 at halftime. Passage took the lead 3-2 in the 53rd minute through Maher-O’Donovan and increased their lead 4-2 five minutes later when Jack O’Herlihy got on the scoresheet. 

Lee Hendley gave the Saint’s some hope when he hit the back of the net an the hour mark. Harry Tett made sure that Passage wasn’t going to be denied their first League victory of the season to win 5-3.

Carrigaline United had to work hard to beat Leeds 2-1 at Leeds Park, Shane Healy gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 58th minute and they doubled their lead 2-0 through Nathan O’Sullivan in the 74th minute.

A late Alex O’Sullivan effort for Leeds made sure that there was a nervous few minutes for Carrigaline, but they held on to get the vital three points.

The other game in this Division was Kinsale hosting College Corinthians at Madden Park and with Alex O’Herlihy and David Clarke-O’Mahony giving Corinthians 2-0, referee Richie Fitzgerald had no other option but to abandon the game with the pitch deteriorating badly.

There were also plenty of goals in the U17 League 2 with the top three teams Innishvilla, Lakewood Athletic and Leeds all winning their respective games and can’t be separated at the top of the table on 12 points, however, Lakewood do have a game less played.

Leeds made sure that they stayed in contention with a superb team performance by beating Mogeely by 6-0 at Leeds Park last Saturday morning. They led 2-0 at halftime with goals from Piotr Storybanda and Tarique Maratien. 

They increased their lead 3-0 when Jonathon O’Reagan got on the scoresheet in the 59th minute and Maratien grabbed his second and his sides fourth a minute later. 

O’Reagan and Storybanda grabbed two late goals to see the Northside side to win 6-0.

Innishvilla also had a good victory when they beat Crosshaven by three goals to one at Madden Park. However, they had to depend on three late goals from Darragh Murphy, Adam Browne and Bobby Morrison to make sure that they stay unbeaten in this Division.

Lakewood also made sure that they stayed in contention by beating Carrigaline United 6-0 at Ovens. Camden O’Leary gave them a early 1-0 lead in the third minute and then Max Murphy put them 2-0 up two minutes later. 

They went three goals in front in the 10th minute when Cathal O’Neill hit the back of the net. Murphy grabbed his second and his side's fourth after 16 minutes. O’Leary also scored his second goal of the game in the 36th minute to ensure Lakewood led 5-0 at halftime. They added a sixth in the 73rd minute through Ezekiel Osabase.
