Tommy Walsh will remain with the Cork senior footballers.

There was interest from new Cork senior hurling boss Ben O’Connor to switch codes, but the Kanturk star is staying with the big ball for next year.

Tommy’s brother, Aidan Walsh, a former Cork dual player for a short period, is understood to have played a part in Tommy deciding to remain with John Cleary’s team.

It’s a boost for the Leesiders given the defender’s performances in recent years. It will be crucial that Cleary has the best squad available next year in order to give Cork a chance of gaining promotion from Division 2 of the league.

The draft league fixtures for the next campaign is expected to be distributed to counties in the coming weeks.

Walsh has been part of the Cork senior football set-up since the 2022 campaign and has made huge strides since.

From the new Cork senior hurling management’s point of view, you could see why they were attracted to the defender.

Despite Kanturk failing to win a game in the Co-Op SuperStores Premier SHC this year, Walsh was one of the standout players for the Duhallow team.

He can also do an excellent man-marking job as shown in the opening group game against Blackrock when he kept Cork star Alan Connolly relatively quiet.
