Cork boxer Steven Cairns continues unbeaten run

Cork professional boxer Steven Cairns continued his unbeaten streak when he won his 12th consecutive lightweight bout with a fifth-round technical stoppage of English fighter Kirk Stevens at the Planet Ice Arena, Altrincham.
It was another vintage performance from Cairns who showed off his skill set against a very tricky, brave, and game opponent. However, he was very patient and never looked under pressure on his way to another eye-catching performance.
Cairns was delighted to get in some useful rounds against a tricky fighter and is looking forward to some bigger bouts.
“I’m delighted with my performance tonight against a game and brave lad,” Cairns said.
“I had to stay patient early on and try to rush in to stay disciplined with my performance. However, it was great to get some quality, good tough rounds in.
“I followed everything that Dave was telling me in my corner, but once I hurt him with my right hook to the body I saw he was in trouble.
I am very dedicated to my sport and work extremely hard in training every day, and with the expert coaching by Dave and his team, the sky’s the limit especially with Queensberry Promotions behind me.
“I am now looking forward to some bigger fights in the future and I don’t fear anyone in this division, so let’s bring them on.”

Stevens started the opening round on the front foot as he bravely came forward. The Cork man kept his composure and stopped him in his tracks with some good combinations to the head and body to finish the opening round.
Again, southpaw Stevens came forward at the start of the second round but was rocked when Cairns caught him with a vicious right hook to the body. Stevens continued to try and trade hits with Cairns, but the Cork man was landing the cleaner punches.
Cairns started the third round more aggressively and when he caught his opponent with an overhead right, it was the first time that Stevens was really rocked. Cairns finished the round by landing some telling shots to the body and looked well in control and had commentators from DAZN Boxing singing his praises with his calm and confident manner.
UPPED THE GEARS
Cairns moved up the gears at the start of the fourth round and walked Stevens onto another powerful overhead right that saw him take a count.
Cairns was now in full flow and hurt his opponent again with another punishing right hook to the body to finish the round with Stevens in trouble.
Cairns wasted no time at the start of the fifth round by unleashing combinations to the head and body and had him on the canvas. To give the English fighter credit, he showed great bravery but another telling right hook to the body saw him down again after 1.40 minutes of the round.
He failed to make the count for Cairns to continue his unbeaten record.
