Aghabullogue made it two wins from two of the Co-op SuperStores IAHC as they beat Youghal on Saturday to secure qualification with a game to spare.

The Coachford club won the fourth-tier competition in 2023 but were unlucky to be relegated from the Premier IHC last year after being one of six teams to finish on two points after the group stage.

However, having got off to a winning start against Blackrock in Group 2 a fortnight ago, Aghabullogue maintained their momentum with the 2-22 to 2-11 victory at Lisgoold. Matthew Bradley landed 1-8 of the winners’ total while John Corkey got the other goal and Odhran O’Connell weighed in with four points.

And four points is the magic amount for the Muskerry outfit as Sarsfields’ wins over the same two opponents means that the top two spots are decided and the game between Aghabullogue and Sars will determine first and second, with the winners almost certainly taking an automatic semi-final spot.

Barry O’Flynn scored 13 points in the Riverstown side’s 0-22 to 1-14 victory against Blackrock in Whitechurch. Ciarán Cormack got the Rockies goal.

In Group 1, Midleton have four points but that is not yet sufficient to guarantee them qualification. The Magpies beat Bandon by 1-20 to 1-15 at Church Road on Sunday, coming from six points down at half-time. Aaron Mulcahy featured heavily among the points while Evan McGrath netted. Ciarán McCarthy got the Bandon goal.

Bandon were already on two points and have now been joined by Russell Rovers, who beat Mayfield by 5-15 to 2-12 in Caherlag. Brian Hartnett scored 3-3 while Josh Beausang and Conor Ahearne raised green flags. Nicky Kelly and Calvin O’Donovan got the Mayfield goals.

In Group 3, Aghada produced a superb performance to beat Erin’s Own by 1-27 to 0-17 in Carrigtwohill on Friday night.

Pearse O’Neill got the goal for the Rostellan outfit, with William Leahy scoring ten points while Charlie Terry, Ronan Murphy and Jamie O’Hanlon among the scores too. Kieran Murphy carried the majority of the Erin’s Own scoring burden.

The Caherlag side had beaten Ballygiblin in their first game and they have now been joined on two points by Kildorrery, who drew for the second time when they met Ballygiblin.

Glanworth was the venue for the local derby and Peter O’Brien scored 0-5 of Kildorrery’s 1-16, while James Eniry got the goal and David Kelly and James Keating were also to the fore. Ballygiblin’s 0-19 featured nine points from Darragh Flynn, including the two to level.

Kilbrittain took a giant leap towards qualification for the knockout stages of the Premier JHC with victory over Cloughduv at Newcestown on Sunday afternoon.

With both sides having won their opening matches in Group 2 – Kilbrittain against neighbours Barryroe and Cloughduv against Nemo Rangers – this was a chance to claim top spot in the group and a strong first half from Kilbrittain laid the foundations for a 2-17 to 1-17 victory.

With the wind behind them, the Carbery outfit amassed a 1-11 to 0-4 lead and held on in the face of second-half pressure from the side relegated from intermediate A last year. Bertie Butler and Luke Griffin scored the Kilbrittain goals while Mark Hickey was again among the points for Joe Ryan’s side. Aodh Twomey landed 1-2 for Cloughduv while Mark Verling had four points.

It's likely that Kilbrittain will still need something from their last match against Nemo Rangers to guarantee progression from the group. Nemo were 0-18 to 0-14 winners over Barryroe at Ballygarvan on Saturday evening, with Shane Horgan scoring eight points for the Trabeg outfit. Olan O’Donovan top scored for Barryroe with 0-5.

Group 1 is now a three-way battle between St Finbarr’s, Glen Rovers and St Catherine’s.

On Saturday, the two city sides met at Na Piarsaigh’s ground and the Glen enjoyed a brilliant start, with Shane Busteed getting 2-2 as they established a 2-10 to 0-3 lead, Evan Murphy and Mark Dooley weighing in on the point-scoring front. However, in the second half, St Finbarr’s ate into the deficit, with Caolán O’Connor scoring a goal as part of a 1-7 individual haul. Conor McCarthy, Kevin O’Flynn and Colm Keane also got on the scoresheet as they finished with 1-18 to match the Glen’s 2-15.

With both clubs having won in their initial outings, they are now on three points, one ahead of St Catherine’s, who bounced back from a loss to the Glen by beating Meeling on a 0-23 to 1-8 scoreline in Buttevant.

Kevin Barry and Oisín Fitzgerald combined for 14 of the points for Catherine’s, who led by three at half-time, with Jack Curtin getting 1-2 for Meelin.

Argideen Rangers are top of Group 3, having beaten Milford by 1-23 to 2-15 in Ovens on Saturday. The Timoleague side’s goal was scored by Pádraig Butler and his brother Finbarr also contributed, along with Charlie Twomey and John Michael O’Callaghan.

The Carbery club are on four points, followed by south-east pair Tracton and Ballygarvan. They met in Riverstick on Sunday and the Minane Bridge side, last year’s junior A champions, won by 1-18 to 1-14. Ronan Walsh’s dead-ball accuracy was a key asset for Tracton, with Cian Quinn goaling. Daniel Mackey got the Ballygarvan goal.
