Carrigaline 1-27 Éire Óg 1-19

Carrigaline kept their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Co-op Superstores PIHC alive after their win over Éire Óg at Cloughduv on Friday night.

Over the hour they were the better side, but it took a late goal from Kevin O’Reilly, not long home from America, to ensure the points went their way. The winners has some quality displays with David Drake showing he is still a threat up front and Kevin Kavanagh didn’t put a foot wrong at centre-back.

Rob O’Shea opened the scoring for Carrigaline, after some good work by Drake, with Kevin Hallissey replying at the other end.

Eanna Desmond put Carrigaline back in front, with Ronan Kelleher adding another to put two between the sides.

Two from Brian Kelleher, one a free, extended their lead further as Carrigaline were on top early on.

They continued to dominate on the scoring board, with O’Shea on target again to extend their lead further.

A superb catch by Kavanagh saw burst forward to land anther great point, as Carrigaline led by 0-7 to 0-1 after 11 minutes.

Lar Considine pointed for Éire Óg, with Drake replying at the other end.

Eoin O’Shea pointed from a free for Éire Óg before Ciaran Kearney got the score of the game for Carrigaline, when he pointed from a sideline, from a relatively tight angle.

Daniel Healy and Johnny Galvin put four between the sides, before further points from Drake, Brian Kelleher and O’Shea made it 0-12 to 0-5 after 25 minutes.

Éire Óg then had their best spell of the half, with Colm O’Callaghan on target, before another free from Eoin O’Shea made it 0-7 to 0-12.

Hallissey and Eoin O’Shea reduced the deficit to three, before late points from Brian Kelleher and Rob O’Shea saw Carrigaline lead by 0-14 to 0-9 at half-time.

Brian Kelleher and Desmond registered early scores for Carrigaline, with Eoin O’Shea replying at the other end.

A second free from O’Shea made 0-18 to 0-14, with 43 minutes gone.

Points from Finn O’Connell and Desmond saw Carrigaline lead by 0-23 to 0-19 with five minutes to go.

Then a long ball in from Brian Kelleher was caught by O’Reilly, just after coming on as a sub, and he turned to find the back of the net, to make it 1-23 to 0-19.

From the restart Kelleher added another point from a free, which came from an off the ball incident which saw Considine receive a straight red card.

Galvin pulled a goal back for Éire Óg, but late points from Brian Kelleher, O’Connell and Ronan Kelleher secured the win for Carrigaline.
