Slievemish Duchess wins the Michael Heffernan memorial Puppy draghunt

A tremendous turn of foot on the finish, by Slievemish Duchess secured a crucial win for the Damien Wade Clogheen ace in the Michael Heffernan memorial Puppy draghunt at Monard on Monday.
By virtue of this win it completed a memorable double for the Wade kennel following their win at the Kenmare Senior meeting on Sunday.
In good open terrain the championship leader found the gears at the appropriate time to cross the tape ahead of the consistent Starman’s Son trained by James and Joy Greene.
Mary Barrett is having a great season with her charge Lewis Lass and once again she ran a cracking draghunt to secure third ticket.
After a great weekend for the Clogheen trainer Damien Wade spoke about his delight in winning this memorial draghunt.
“Michael Heffernan was a loyal member of our association and I would like to thank his family for supporting this great day.
“Slievemish Duchess is a consistent hound but prone to making a mistake or two at crucial stages of draghunts but that’s what makes this sport all that bit more interesting,” said Damien wade.
In the Puppy Maiden draghunt there was joy for the Gerry Murphy and Sheila Cummins kennel when they had a 1.2 when Guinness Boy edged out kennelmate Tiger’s Belle.
The third ticket went to the Marguerite Busteed Mayfield trained Danganmore Tommy who continues to improve in this grade.

The Damien Wade trained Slievemish Spring of Clogheen produced the performance of the weekend by winning the Kenmare Senior Maiden draghunt.
In an incredible display of front running the Clogheen hound actually caught up with the Senior hounds who were slipped 10 minutes before the maiden hounds finishing ninth in that pack.
In draghunt that took the Senior hounds 59 minutes to complete Slievemish Spring was clocked at 54 minutes a clear five minutes faster than the elite grade.
Before the race Damien was contemplating retirement for his seven- year- old veteran but now he may run him until the end of the season.
The former Senior champion has been a wonderful hound for trainer and club and after the draghunt he paid tribute to his prize asset.
“To be honest Slievemish Spring always handles this terrain well but to do what he achieved today is remarkable and one I will personally never forget,” Damien said.
In the Senior race the Martin Wall trained Wolfe Tone Lass of Northern Hunt ran a tremendous draghunt before settling for third ticket.
The Cork City and County Harriers association had five ticketing hounds in the Puppy race that was won by Chapel Field Lady.
