Memorable Listowel double for Eugene O'Sullivan and Tomas and Jack Singleton

Listowel 2-June-2025
A week is a long time in politics and equally can seem an like an eternity in the topsy turvy world of National Hunt racing.
Cork owners Tomas and Jack Singleton capped a memorable seven days with a Bank Holiday Double to remember at Listowel, courtesy of the Eugene O'Sullivan trained duo Bugs Moran, 10/3 and Themanintheanorak, 20/1.
They'd struck with their marquee horse Jesse Evans last Monday at Ballinrobe.
That victory acted as a catalyst for the floodgates to open with a superb double here this afternoon at the North Kerry venue for the sporting Cork owners.
Bugs Moran initiated the double when he made all the running to land the Beasley Engineering Hunters Chase at Listowel this afternoon.
Jack Singleton and legendary Cork hurler Mick Malone were on hand to lead in Bugs Moran, who is trained by Eugene O'Sullivan in Lombardstown. The winner landed a nice touch in the process backed at 8/1 in the offices and backed from 5/1 on-course into 10/3.
He received an enterprising ride from the burgeoning talent that is Dungourney jockey Michael Kenneally.

The winner was a smart 136 hurdler when trained by Noel Meade and had won a Grade B €50,000 handicap hurdle on Easter Saturday at Fairyhouse in 2025.
His jumping was bold and accurate and he jumped for fun throughout relishing the good ground.
He's a horse who could continue to progress and might be a name to note next season in the top tier of the hunter chasing ranks scene.
Themanintheanorak made a successful and somewhat spectacular racecourse debut in the concluding Bryan McMahon Bumper again in the iconic red and white Singleton silks.
Jumping had been his Achilles heel in his three point to point excursions as he'd fallen twice.
He'd finished third at Castlelands under today's successful jockey Alan O'Sullivan when 6/4 favourite and closer scrutiny suggested he'd have been closer but for a few pivotal errors.
The son of Pour Moi went off at 20/1 here today and produced a striking performance under Alan O'Sullivan who'd run in Sunday's Cork City Marathon.
The winner won by six lengths with the useful yardstick Angelo Dundee ten lengths back in third. Eugene had a few horses run moderately on Saturday, so the Singletons weren't quite sure how today might pan out.
Form is temporary and class is permanent.
The phone will surely be ringing with offers for today's bumper winner.
He returned at 27/1 on the exchanges today.
It completed a great afternoon from a Cork perspective at Listowel.
Earlier Paul Townend recorded a short priced double including a bloodless victory for the Cork based Roaringwater Syndicate on 1/5 favourite Blood Destiny in the John J Galvin Chase.
Townend made all the running to win this particular race for a fourth consecutive year.
The Lisgoold jockey had landed the opening Mares Maiden hurdle on 4/7 favourite La Note Verte a bumper winner here last year.
Daniel King continued the successful Cork theme at Listowel when the talented Kibrin jockey landed the maiden hurdle for Tony Martin with French recruit Day Trader.
