Denise O’Sullivan is coming home, with the Republic of Ireland Women's National Team set to play Slovenia in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Tuesday, June 3.
GAA's Central Council also gave their approval for a Munster match to take place on Leeside in December, potentially a URC derby with Leinster. It will be the Reds' third rugby game in the Páirc and the first since hosting New Zealand's Crusaders in February 2024.
The Girls in Green will close out their UEFA Nations League campaign with another visit to Leeside, almost a year on from their famous victory over France.
This is the first two games of association football set to take place at the home of Cork GAA this summer, with the second being the Cork Super Cup between Cork City FC and Celtic on July 8.
This will be the eighth time that the Republic of Ireland WNT has played in the Rebel County and it follows fixtures at Turner’s Cross and Flower Lodge.
Ireland WNT Head Coach Carla Ward said: "We are looking forward to bringing the Ireland squad back to Cork in June to close out the group stages of the UEFA Nations League.
The last game involving the Republic of Ireland WNT at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh attracted 18,399 spectators from all across the country.
The Girls in Green recorded their best result that night by defeating a France team ranked No.2 in the world rankings. That followed Les Bleues reaching the World Cup quarter-finals and losing to hosts Australia on penalties.
O’Sullivan almost personally made it happen, in front of her friends and family in her home city. The Ireland centurion commanded play in the middle of the park and opened the scoring with a powerful shot at the start of the second half.
The Girls in Green made it 2-0 in the 76th minute with Julie Ann-Russell cutting inside and hitting the back of the net.
Megan Connolly came off the bench and set up Anna Patten to get the winning goal, completing a perfect evening for the team and the Cork-based players.
The upcoming game against Slovenia will be the final one of the campaign, and it will be preceded by a meeting with Turkey.
The Girls in Green are getting ready for their second international window of the year, which will see them take on Greece.
Their first game is scheduled to take place on Friday at the Theodoros Vardinogiannis Stadium in Crete. The two teams will meet again on Tuesday, April 8 at Tallaght Stadium in Dublin.
The Girls in Green are desperate for a result after their 4-0 defeat to Slovenia last February.
The Republic of Ireland were 3-0 down at half-time and instead of a comeback, the hosts added another at the start of the second half.
