Adam Idah and Alix Mendez are through to their retrospective Scottish Cup semi-finals at Hampden Park following victories with Celtic and Aberdeen.

The Hoops faced Hibernian this afternoon at Parkhead and the College Corinthians schoolboy star netted an injury time winner.

Mendez played the full game for The Dons against St Johnstone and enjoyed a 4-1 victory at Riverside Stadium.

The Hoops are now favourites to win the Scottish Cup, while Aberdeen will go into their game aiming to win their first major trophy.

A perfect day for two Cork exports started with the green and white side of Glasgow, with Celtic bouncing back from a recent defeat to their Edinburgh rivals in the league by ending their hopes of a first major trophy since 2016.

Brendan Rodgers' side started fast and created a number of chances during the first few minutes of play at Parkhead.

Their first real opening came when Nicolas Kühn drifted a ball into the box where Daizen Maeda was lurking, and Jordan Smith came out to deal with this. Callum McGregor also tried his luck early on and the midfielder’s driven attempt was batted away by the Hibs goalkeeper.

Eventually, space opened up, and Daizen Maeda made it 1-0 after an effort from Kühn was saved by Smith.

The Japan international hit the back of the net and Celtic led at the break.

Idah made sure of the win in the first minute of added time. The Cork native was set up by Luke McCowan and he supplied the side-footed finish.

Celtic are now in pursuit of a second treble in three seasons, as they are leading the race for the Scottish Premiership title with the Scottish League Cup already wrapped in green and white ribbons.

The Hoops lifted the first piece of silverware of the season by defeating Rangers on penalties last December at Hampden Park.

Adam Idah came off the bench that day and netted a penalty against the club’s eternal rivals.

That victory meant that the Douglas native had completed a clean sweep of silverware in Scotland after just one year, as he won a league and national cup medal while on loan from Norwich City.

IMPRESSED

In Perth, Mendez impressed at full-back for an Aberdeen side that was stunned early on by St Johnstone.

Steffi Simon went for goal after picking up a misplaced pass and her attempt was easily stopped by Annalisa McCann.

Then Elvie McLean scored and the home side took the lead and Holly McEvoy levelled things up by heading the ball in from right in front of the posts.

It was 1-1 at the break and the game restarted with Toni Leigh Finnegan giving Aberdeen the lead. Kerry Beattie doubled their advantage and Finnegan’s second made sure of the victory.

Mendez has been in flying form since signing for the Scottish side, she made her debut after landing and helped the team record a 0-0 draw with Partick Thistle.
