Ballyphehane in pole position to mount title challenge in CBL Second Division League

Third in the second division table, ISP Ballyphehane Celtic met leaders Cork County Council in the match of the week last Saturday afternoon at Crosshaven.
After a tentative opening half hour a succession of corners led to Celtic’s Jamie Thompson picking out Liam Coleman who powered a header past for the lead in the 35th minute.
Alan Murphy combined with Mohamed Vangahun to increase the lead on the stoke of half-time.
The versatile Rob Susek reduced the deficit from a penalty in the 62nd minute only for sub Michael Barry to wriggle his way into the area before firing inside near post with 18 minutes remaining.
Player-manager James Corcoran put the icing on the cake when he played in Niall Kennedy for a fourth in added time to seal a sixth league win on the trot for the impressive hosts.

The LAB 3
The LAB came from 2-1 down at the break to garner a share of the spoils with Stryker Macroom.
Sean Murray did well to slide Simon O’Connell in for a fourth minute lead for Macroom before repeating the dose in the 36th minute with his second of the afternoon.
Jordan O’Keeffe unselfishly presented Stephen Ring to half the lead in first-half added time.
On the resumption, Stephen Folasade spotted the run of Matthew Ekhosuehi who duly equalized before Sean Cassidy restored Stryker’s lead on the hour.
Folasade made sure the visitors would not be going home empty handed when he slotted home his side’s third in the 78th minute.

Valley Rangers won for only the second time at Conna courtesy of goals from John Noonan in the eighth and 57th minutes and Jack Murphy three minutes earlier.
Sam Lyne had earlier cancelled out Noonan’s early opener with Stryker’s equalizer in the 34th minute.

In a seven goal encounter, Mykyta Leontiev’s 25th minute goal for Ukraine separated the teams at half-time.
In an action packed second 45, Syl Byrne netted a hat-trick for the visitors along with Alex Farrell while Alim Khameton and Dmytro Bielan replied for the hosts.

Suro won for the first time in the league since November 6th to move level with EVcore in second place.
Joe Cullagh scored a hat-trick along with Eoghan Maguire, Charlie Millea and Brian Bohane. Goals from Daniel Jouhari and Jamie Purcell for Marlboro early in the second-half had tied up the contest at two-two.

In the all premier tie at Mayfield Park last Friday night, a solitary goal from Alex O’Driscoll, set up by Sam Heffernan in first-half added time, secured a quarter-final spot for Jay Bazz who exacted sweet revenge for the 3-2 Jackie O’Driscoll Premier Cup defeat at the tail end of last season.

Second in the premier Swyft entertained second in the second division DCT FC in the delayed first round tie.
Rob Twomey’s charges took the initiative early on and scored twice from the penalty spot through Eoghan O’Sullivan before the 35th minute. O’Sullivan completed his hat-trick in the 49th minute before putting James McCarthy in for a fourth six minutes later. Sean Buckley linked up with Ronan Lawlor for the latter to score a consolation for the visitors with twenty minutes remaining.
DHF Grangevale 3
Ringmahon Rangers 5
Grangevale and Ringmahon served up a cracking all Cork last sixteen tie at Mayfield Park.
The Vale were without regular centre-backs Ben Jenkins and Brian Murphy and injured midfield powerhouse John Barry but went in front in the 5th minute when Dave Barrett sent Cian O’Connor the wrong way from a penalty.
Within 12 minutes Jordan Delurey cracked in a superb equalizer from the edge of the area.
However, Aaron O’Sullivan and Corey Harris combined in the 33rd minute for the latter to find the net.
The introduction of Stephen Osubor Kennedy and Ian Flemming at haft-time turned the tie in Rangers’ favour.
First, Ivan Abramets sent Kennedy in for the equalizer in the 55th minute before Flemming and Jamen O’Callaghan added further goals.
Harris brought the tie back to a single goal difference in the 90th minute only for Delurey to score his second in added time.
