Former Cork senior football boss Brian Cuthbert has taken over the Bishopstown footballers ahead of the 2025 season.

Cuthbert has a wealth of experience having been over the Cork minor footballers in 2010 and '11, guiding the Rebels to Munster glory in the first year and reaching the All-Ireland final in the same campaign. He took the Cork senior job for two seasons, 2014 and ’15.

Cuthbert has been heavily involved with his beloved Bishopstown at underage level over the last few years. He was a selector when the city side won the McCarthy Insurance Group County U21 A football championship back in December after defeating Beara in the final. Before that, they claimed the city crown after a gritty win over Nemo Rangers in the decider after extra time.

The captain of the Cork All-Ireland minor football winning team in 1993 takes over a Bishopstown side in the second tier of the Cork football championship, the senior A grade. They have been there since losing their top flight status in 2020. The Town reached the quarter-finals of the SAFC in the last campaign where they lost narrowly to the eventual winners Carrigaline.

Despite the progress made in 2024, Mark Driscoll stepped down after a year at the helm, paving the way for Cuthbert to take over the team with Brian O’Connell, Justin Honohan and Wayne O’Grady selectors under the new manager.

Cuthbert’s first competitive game in charge will be away to Mallow in the McCarthy Insurance Group Division 3 football league on Sunday, March 2 at 11.30am.

In their championship group this year, Bishopstown will meet Dohenys, O’Donovan Rossa and Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh.
