Patrician Academy Mallow’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the Corn Uí Mhuirí for the second year in a row ended with a 1-13 to 0-6 defeat to Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine Kenmare at Bishopstown 4G on Wednesday afternoon.

The Cork school only led once on the day, through a score from play by Ben O’Shea inside the first minute.

It finished as a comfortable victory for the school from Kenmare, who are playing at this level for the first time ever after winning the Munster B title last year.

After Ben O’Shea raised that white flag, Jack Tangney put over his first of five first half frees.

He hit three-in-a-row before a goal-bound shot by Cathal Kelleher was blocked by Mallow’s Aaron Murphy.

Patrician Academy then created an overlap and an opportunity to raise a green flag by Mikie O’Riordan went straight into the hands of Barry Fitzsimons in the 8th minute of play.

Jack Tangney converted another free seconds later and that was followed by their first score from open play, a curling effort by Neal O’Shea to make it 0-5 to 0-1.

Dylan O’Connell and Cathal Mullins combined to reduce the gap between the teams to two points before Neal O’Shea got his second at the 20th minute.

Mullins got another shortly after before a Donncha O’Sullivan brace gave his team a 0-8 to 0-4 cushion.

After David O’Brien got it back to three, Jack Tangney converted a free and it was 0-9 to 0-5 at the break.

Kenmare restarted with Jack Tangney scoring from play and Mullins kicked what turned out to be Mallow’s only score during the second half.

Things got worse for the Cork side when Ben Noonan was sent off after receiving a second yellow card at the 50th minute.

Jack O’Sullivan took advantage of the space by getting his name on the score-sheet and Micheal Mullins announced his arrival by splitting the post with one of his first touches.

The game finished with a breakaway goal, and Neal O’Shea finished this for his school in added time.
