Cork's Cathal Crowley returns to the boxing ring tomorrow, Thursday night, when he will face off against Leamington Spa native Mike Byles in a six round Super Middleweight bout at the Excelsior Sports Club in the West Midlands, Birmingham.

This will be Crowley’s fifth fight and he will be aiming to stay unbeaten after beating Veselin Vasilev, Patryk Polasik and Edgar Kemsky on points. He also stopped Aleksander Nagolski with a spectacular display at the Gurranabraher Credit Union Parochial Arena last October.

Byles is a very experienced fighter and the 37 year-old is known as a true hard man of the sport with a record of eight wins and 12 losses in his career, however, Crowley is hungry for this fight as he had the disappointment of fights falling through in the last few months.

Byles last outing was against fellow English man Liam O’Hare at Cannock’s Excelsior Sporting Club and even though it was one-sided affair with O’Hare stayed unbeaten by winning on points, he showed enough quality after spending nearly seven years out of the ring to give Crowley trouble.

“I am fighting on Thursday night at the Excelsior Sporting Club in Birmingham,” Cathal said.

“I’m fighting an English fighter named Mike Byles, he will definitely the most experienced opponent that I have faced so far in my career to date. "Since my last fight against Edgar Kemsky in Galway, I have stayed busy in the gym and am doing lots of early morning runs.

"I was supposed to have a couple of fights, however, for one reason or another, they fell through, so I used the disappointment and frustration to keep working hard in the gym and continue my sparing and improving under the watchful eye of my coach Paschal Collins.

“There was talk of a fight with Kerryman Kevin Cronin, but the fight fell through, however, it wasn’t from a lack of trying from my side as we tried to get the fight made twice this year, but Cronin didn’t want it, unfortunately.

“My preparation for this fight has been good.

"I have spent a lot of time in Dublin in camp and I was also in Lanzarote helping Pierre Dibombe (22-1) with some sparring three weeks ago as he prepared for his fight in the co-main event on the Callum Walsh card in the 3Arena last weekend.

“Both Paschal and myself have plans to fight again after this event, maybe in November or December this year.

"There’s talks of an Irish title fight between Jamie Morrissey and myself at light heavyweight, so hopefully that can happen as it would be a great fight for all boxing fans all over the country and a great way to end the year,” Cathal added.
