Rhasidat Adeleke into 200m final in European Athletics Champions

Rhasidat Adeleke produced the best performance of the season to qualify for the women's 200m final at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

Adeleke ran a time of 22.43 to produce her season's best and qualify for the final.

In what has been a difficult year for Adeleke, she has produced her best moment when it was needed.

Adeleke on RTÉ said: “I felt good. I think it’s just having fun and enjoying the process has really brought me down to earth. I’m taking everything on my stride. I’m not allowing the pressure to consume me, I’m allowing it to fuel me.

“I haven’t raced that much this year. Getting the rounds in is important, it’s just a case of believing in it, believing who I am. Sometimes when you’re down, you forget who you are. Believing you can do this.”

Lauren Roy missed out on qualification for the 200m final, but can take a lot from her fourth-place finish in the second semi-final.

Roy ran a time of 23.16, as she flew out of the blocks to put herself in contention.

Nicola Tuthill has thrown 70.30 in the hammer final to come fifth in a positive display.
