Cork footballer Conor Corbett has suffered a suspected cruciate ligament injury, The Echo understands.
The forward has been in Chicago since the Rebels exit from the championship six weeks ago when they lost to Louth in the All-Ireland SFC preliminary quarter-final. Corbett suffered the injury in recent days. He was playing for John McBride's in Chicago.
It’s terrible news for Cork football as the forward is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines. It’s the second time in just a few years that Corbett has suffered a cruciate injury having also picked it up back in July 2021 during the Munster U20 football championship final victory over Tipperary.
The North Cork player has had very little luck with injuries since captaining the Cork minors to All-Ireland glory in 2019 and while it’s a blow for Rebels boss John Cleary, it’s a seismic loss for Corbett’s club Clyda Rovers.

The Echo had reported only last week that he was set to miss Clyda's first two McCarthy Insurance Group SAFC group games this season but was due back from America for the last group outing against Newmarket. The Mourneabbey-based outfit lost to Bishopstown by three points last Saturday and take on Knocknagree next in two weeks’ time.
Corbett did have a mixed campaign this year for the Cork senior footballers but just seeing him out on the pitch was a huge positive. His performances in the Division 2 league wins over Kildare and Meath were particularly impressive most notably his 1-2 against the Lilywhites down the Páirc.
