Passage 1-15 St Nicholas 0-7

PASSAGE claimed the O’Connor’s Butchers and Foodhall Seandún Cup as they defeated St Nicholas in a one-sided decider at Ballinlough.

Wayward shooting was proving to be costly for St Nicholas as they were restricted to a single score at half-time. They also missed the game’s first goal-scoring opportunity in the 19th minute.

Passage got the game’s decisive goal three minutes into the second half, but St Nicholas, to their credit, outscored Passage by five points to two in the final quarter, with the game effectively over as a contest.

Liam Harrington converted Passage’s first free in the eighth minute. Passage then tagged on four unanswered points from play to lead by seven.

The Blackpool side began to turn the screw and they opened their account midway through the opening half, courtesy of a point from play by Ryan Long.

St Nicholas continued to have Passage pinned back, but solid defensive work by Passage prevented the Blackpool side from putting further scores on the board.

Passage had St Nicholas back on the defensive as Harrington converted his second free. This was followed by a point from play by Trafford Murphy, which gave Passage an interval lead of 0-9 to 0-1.

Two minutes after the resumption, Eddie Fuller converted a 45 for the Blackpool side, but Passage ended the game as a contest with a goal by Shane Burke from a difficult angle on the St Nicholas 13-metre line.

Passage tagged on three more points from placed balls and Coughlan added a point from play, before St Nicholas seized the initiative.
