Crystal Palace will be owed a percentage of Lyon defender Jake O’Brien’s next move amid serious Premier League interest in the Republic of Ireland international.
The Eagles are in line for a significant cash windfall with Youghal man O’Brien set to return to the Premier League this summer following an impressive season in Ligue 1.
It is understood the Selhurst Park side included a sell on clause of up to 25 percent when they sold him to Lyon last summer - although it is unclear whether the amount Palace would recoup is linked to how much profit Lyon make from the defender’s potential exit. Cork City will also be watching on carefully as they were the club that sold O'Brien to Palace
The price being mooted for O’Brien is in the region of £15million.
Lyon signed him for just £850,000.
Another product of Palace’s famed scouting network, which has identified the likes of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi and Adam Wharton, the 6ft 6ins centre-back left south London in August 2023 as the Premier League side structured a deal with Lyon, who are owned by Eagles part-owner John Textor.
But after just one impressive season in France the Irishman is set to leave for a bigger club.
West Ham, who are also interested in Wolves’ Max Kilman, have an interest in O’Brien.
Everton, too, are understood to have considered a move for the 23-year-old.
Borussia Dortmund have also been heavily linked with a move for the centre-back.
Meanwhile, Newcastle want to keep the Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimarães, who has been linked with Arsenal and Manchester City, and their asking price of over £100m for Isak is likely to be too high for Chelsea.
The Sweden striker is an ambitious target for Chelsea as they look to bring in a new forward.
Hopes that Isak will move to Stamford Bridge are not high but the west Londoners have looked at capitalising on Newcastle’s situation.
Chelsea, who have completed the signing of the Aston Villa forward Omari Kellyman, could look to offer players in exchange for Isak.
Meanwhile, West Ham have approached Metz about signing the Georgia striker Georges Mikautadze. The attacker has helped his country reach the last 16 of the Euros by scoring three goals in three games.
Aston Villa have announced the signing of Netherlands international Ian Maatsen from Premier League rivals Chelsea for a reported £37.5million.
The 22-year-old left-back was part of the Borussia Dortmund team beaten by Real Madrid in last season’s Champions League final during a loan move from Stamford Bridge.
Maatsen, who is currently with his country at Euro 2024 in Germany, becomes Unai Emery’s second summer signing following the arrival of forward Lewis Dobbin from Everton.
Villa are preparing for Champions League football after finishing fourth in the top flight.
