THE Cork Sports Partnership are teaming up with communities, athletics clubs and local instructors to roll out the third annual Cork Athletics Week.

By day, different clubs and communities will host free Little Athletics events for kids aged 6-12 and by night, we have a variety of informative workshops and webinars!

Seven different community Athletics Clubs will be hosting one-day fun Little Athletics events. These clubs include Bandon, Riverstick Kinsale, North Cork, Durrus, MTU, Midleton and West Muskerry.

On Saturday, July 6, Tramore Valley Park is the venue for the third annual Athletics Funfest. All these days last from 10am-1pm with the main aim to try out Athletics in fun and supported way.

Qualified Athletics coaches will be at the sessions to guide and encourage the children throughout. Each evening an informative webinar or fitness class will take place live online.

The webinar topics this year are Injury Prevention with Aisling O’Brien from Focus Physio and Endurance Running with Emmett Dunleavy, who is one of the leading distance running coaches in Ireland.

On Tuesday and Thursday, we will have live fitness classes for people looking to get a later night workout in.

Sarah Fox will be coordinating a live yoga class while West Cork’s own Sinead O’Regan will be running a live Mobility exercise for runners class.

Limited places are available for all of these events and there is no charge to participate for children or adults.

GOAL

Craig Harrington Athletics Development Officer for Cork & MTU is looking forward to the week.

“This is a great opportunity for children to try out Athletics for the first time in a supported setting.

"Each community Athletics club is currently planning a fun day for the big week. The goal for the week is fun and participation which is what sport is all about.

Our athletes performed so well at the European Championships in Rome a few weeks ago so now is the perfect time to give it a go.”

Maurice O’Sullivan, Sport & Marketing Manager Cork Sports Partnership, is delighted to work with the organisers.

"Cork Sports Partnership is delighted to coordinate Cork Athletics Week for the third year.

"The weeklong campaign is all about promoting the sport of athletics to people of all ages and abilities across Cork.

"In particular, we are excited to have so many clubs on board providing opportunities for over 500 children in communities across Cork to try little athletics, for many of which it may be the first time."

The goal of the week is to promote athletics as a sport that everyone can enjoy both recreationally or competitively.

All registrations for both adult and children’s events are being taken on the Cork Sports Partnership website.
