John Egan commits to Hull City for another two seasons - at least

John Egan could replicate Séamus Coleman’s longevity by remaining at Hull City until he’s 37 after agreeing a contract extension.

The newly-promoted Tigers, who’ve beaten Manchester United and Coventry City in their opening pair of matches, have tied the Corkman down on for another two years, with the option of a further 12 months.

The 33-year-old has been a dependable performer since signing from Burnley in February 2025, making 61 appearances in City colours.

He started 39 of City’s 46 regular league games last term, contributing to nine clean sheets and scoring his first of three goals – a 97th-minute equaliser – away to Swansea City.

That culminating by steering his team back to the top-flight by overcoming Middlesbrough in the playoff final at Wembley.

“We’ve had a rapid rise in 18 months,” the Ireland international centre-back admitted.

“When I first came into the club, we were trying to avoid relegation to League One, and now we’re sat here after two wins in the Premier League. It all feels like it happened overnight.

“Ever since I came to the club, I’ve really enjoyed it. I’m delighted to sign a new contract and am forward to the future.

“The club put a lot of trust in me and I would like to think I have repaid the club by putting in performances. The club has helped me get back to my best, and I’ve played a small part in helping the club do well.” He spoke about their promotion season, his first full campaign in the black and amber stripes.

“I managed to play a lot of games last season. My teammates were unbelievable and we had a really close team. To play under such a good manager, with great lads, was fantastic and definitely improved my game.

“To go up the way we did at Wembley was one of the best days of my career and one of the best feelings I’ve ever had on a football pitch.

“I’m really proud to be a Hull City player and proud to call this my home. Hopefully, we can keep pushing this club as high up as we can.”
