DEAN Brosnan has given Glen Rovers incredible service over many years and this season he has been named as captain of the Blackpool outfit as they bid to get back to Premier Senior hurling.
Brosnan has been outstanding during their league campaign and their latest win against Blackrock brought huge relief to all concerned at the Blackpool club.
“The league campaign has been very hard with injuries and sickness as we going out in some games only having 19 players at our disposal and that’s something we have never experienced at the Glen,” he said.
Brosnan believes the sudden change in weather has played a major factor on the injury front.
“I think we had so much rain for months with heavy going on pitches before they had to close and then suddenly some sunshine and harder surfaces that has taken its toll on some players,” he added.
The good news for the Glen supporters is that many of the injured players are almost ready to come back.
“We are getting lads fit and now we have six weeks to get ready for our first championship game but at the moment we have more people absent that actually training so it will be nice to have a full squad available sooner than later.”

In the words of Brosnan getting the physical side back to the Glen game is a must.
“Glen sides were always known to have plenty of mettle but that seemed to drop off last season and you saw where it took us.”
TOUGH
Brosnan is approaching his 33rd birthday on June 24 and he reflected on last season’s nightmare campaign.
“Getting relegated basically broke many hearts in the Glen as we had a serious history in Cork hurling and in my book we shouldn’t be where we are.
The Senior A championship is a tough grade and Brosnan knows his side will have to dig deep as there are many clubs in this grade who believe they are good enough to be playing at the top tier.
“I still feel we are good enough to compete in the Premier grade as some of our performances in the league without key players shows we have strength in depth.”
In the words of Brosnan attitude will be key this season. “When we put on the Glen jersey every player must give their all and show the spirit in this club is still alive and kicking.”
After being an integral part of Glen teams that won county medals Brosnan knows the importance of competing with the elite clubs in this city and county.
“Look I am proud to be captain of my club but that is only a role given to me and all I will doing this season is urging my fellow players to step up to the mark.
“Last season was a nightmare but at the end of the day our results were not good enough and hopefully the pain of relegation will drive guys on in our bid to get back playing Premier hurling.”
