Grenagh United U15 schoolboy team going from strength to strength after a great season

The Grenagh United U15 CSL team after a very enjoyable season.

Grenagh United are a club on the rise, and a talented group of footballers are looking for new players in a bid to keep their fairytale going in north-Cork.

The club, which is based just outside Mallow, recently celebrated their U15s achieving promotion from the fourth to the third division in the Cork Schoolboys League.

Their success doesn’t just come from winning the most games and keeping clean sheets, but a close knit bond that comes with the unique nature of the club and the town.

Grenagh’s U15s have played together since early childhood and that gave them a bond which ‘transcends the soccer field’ according to the club.

The Grenagh Boys, as they are affectionately known, attend the same school and spend countless hours together both in and out of practice.

Their camaraderie is evident in the way they play the game: every pass, tackle, and goal is a testament to their unity.

When they win, they celebrate as one; when they lose, they shoulder the disappointment together.

Grenagh’s story has seen them put it up to some of the best schoolboy sides in Cork, teams with superior resources and training facilities.

Each time they came out on top, while maintaining their dignity and respect, on and off the pitch.

Much of the credit for their exemplary behaviour and performance goes to their dedicated coaches, Brian McSweeney and Andrew Murphy.

Brian, who focuses on fitness, strength and stamina, ensures that the boys are in peak physical condition.

His rigorous training sessions push the boys to their limits, building not only their physical capabilities but also their mental resilience.

Brian's passion as a coach is one of a kind, and his quite confidence and inner strength instils a self-belief in each of the boys.

Andrew, on the other hand, is the mastermind behind their technical prowess.

His drills and skills training sessions are meticulously planned, honing the boys' abilities to control the ball, execute precise passes, and finish with accuracy.

Andrew's strategic mind is also pivotal in planning the team's tactics, as he consults with Brian to determine the best positions and strategies for each game.

The duo's complementary coaching styles have created a well-rounded team. Brian and Andrew have instilled in the boys the values of respect, hard work, and camaraderie.

They emphasize that soccer is not just about winning or losing but about playing with heart and integrity.

New players have joined along the way and have become valuable members of the team.

Grenagh are now looking to put together a second U16 team and interested players are asked to contact Andrew at 085 1462490.

As the Grenagh Boys continue to grow and develop, both as players and as individuals, their story serves as a reminder of the power of teamwork and sportsmanship.
