NOW settled into his new role as Commerical Manager at Cobh Ramblers, Paul Deasy is starting to find his feet with the club and is enjoying working with a new team.

In his new position which he commenced at the end of February, among the main duties Deasy, who previously did the same job for Cork City, undertakes in his new role include driving sponsorship and partnerships, while also developing the Cobh Ramblers brand within the community.

“I have been finding it really good. Before I actually came on board, I had been chatting to the club for the last couple of months and chatting to the board.

“The biggest thing that impressed me was the people involved.

"There seems to be great people involved on the board and in and around the club as well. Everyone seems to be pulling in the same direction and wanting to do things right and push the club forward.

“You can see the proof is in that in regards to the new Astroturf development and things like that down around the club.

“They are always striving to do better and get better. They want to professionalise the club as best as they can and drive it forward, to make all areas of the club better and more professional.

“That is probably why they wanted to bring in the likes of myself, to have a person there who can go in with a focus on it day to day.

"As I said, trying to bring it up and to professionalise things off the pitch.

My first thing to do coming into the club is looking after the sponsors and partners that are in place first of all. Once that is in place, continue the relationships there and also widen the net.

“As part of my brief, it is to maximize the revenue streams that are already in place in the club, but also try to maybe create new revenue streams as well to add to things.”

Deasy is someone who brings plenty of experience to the role, having served in a similar position as Cork City FC as the Commercial & Marketing Manager from January, 2019 up until May, 2023.

While working at Cork City, Deasy played an important role in attracting many new sponsors and partners to the club. He also led a number of other initiatives in areas such as fundraising, marketing and merchandise.

Now he is fully focused on driving progression for Ramblers off the pitch, in what is an exciting time for the club. Cobh play their first home game on the new state-of-the-art AstroTurf pitch at St Colman’s Park against Longford Town on Easter Monday.

“The Astroturf development is going to be a massive positive for the club,” outlines Deasy. “Having a good quality playing surface there on a weekly basis. But even from a club as a whole in regards to having a hub and a base for the first team, but also the academy teams.

It is a clear problem in the League Of Ireland in regards to facilities.

"But Cobh will have a proper home now in regards to that they will train there constantly and they will play there constantly. There are two fantastic setups between the Stephen Ireland Astroturf and St Colman’s Park.

“The costs the club will save in regards to renting out other facilities that they have had to do over the last number of years. Everything can be brought in house now and that is going to create a massive saving as well.

“It is going to be fantastic against Longford. I am sure there will be a massive crowd and it is Easter Monday."

GROWING

As can be seen by the healthy attendance figures right across the country, these are exciting times for League Of Ireland Football.

Cobh Ramblers are another club that will be keen to capitalise on the growth in domestic Irish football, something Deasy will be keen to play his part at in Cobh over the coming months ahead.

“With my previous role at Cork City I had seen that. I think there is definitely a better focus on the League Of Ireland.

“There is a conscious effort being made to improve things all around. Especially since we have come out of Covid, there seems to be a different outlook on the League Of Ireland in regards to the fanbase and stuff like that.“

With a determined mindset to improve Cobh Ramblers, Paul Deasy looks like he will fit right in at St Colman's Park.
