Siam Warriors Cork hosted a big night of Muay Thai of action-packed fights at the St Finbarr's GAA Hall recently.

There was a superb line up of Siam Warriors fighters and other Mauy Thai gyms around the country on show in front of large attendance on the night.

The Cork club, Siam Warriors under the guidance of Martin Horgan and Micheal 0’Mahony, had four from four fighters on the main card in three main title contests on the night.

“It was a great night's entertainment for all Mauy Thai fighting and kickboxing fans as they got to see some really tough fights on the night and our own club fighters put in some spectacular performances,” Martin Horgan said.

“Colm O'Mahony of Siam Warriors faced off (in his final fight as a teenager) for the WBC European Title U18 belt against a strong Italian Champion Andre Battisti, who has 47 fights to his name so far in his career.

“Colm kicked off with a strong opening round and continued right through the five rounds of the bout by really pushing the pace.

"He used his full range of heavy punching, punishing leg kicks and his impressive elbowing and kneeing to great effect on his opponent throughout the fight, as he showed great mobility and maturity throughout the contest.

“Colm eventually proved too strong for the brave and tricky Italian and was crowned WBC European Champion, adding to his Amateur World WBC Championship Medal that he won last year."

Then the Siam Warriors Silver Series Titles featured in next two fights on the card.

The home promotion title under full Mauy Thai rules always brings out the most exciting fighters and fights at these events and those fights certainly had the crowd on their feet.

Cian Hurley of the Siam Warriors club returned to Cork City after living in Spain for a number of years and he jumped right back into action.

He faced off against Gustavo Beck, a very strong Brazilian, who now is residing in Dublin.

“The fight kicked off at a very fast pace and didn’t let up in what was an gruelling encounter for both fighters.

"They were both cut during the fight after some heavy exchanges and the crowd saw a full range of kicks, knees and elbows from the lads which was flowing right through out the fight.

“At the end, Cian Hurley was crowned champion on points, to seize his third title of his career, however, he received a very nasty cut that required 14 stitches to his head, but by winning the belt definitely took the sting out of his injury."

Next up for Siam Warriors Gym was Nacim Younsi and he was pitted against the rock solid Dublin fighter Tony Roche.

This was another Siam Warriors Silver Series title bout, which is under Pro/Am Full Thai Rules, and the large attendance expected a really exciting encounter.

“Nacim's pace, his punches and elbows were relentless in early exchanges of the bout with both fighters adding in well-placed knees and kicks throughout."

The Siam Warriors smiling and dance assassin Younsi took a unanimous points victory to be crowned champion to the delight of his family and friends on the night.

Cork star Aideen Mullins made her professional debut also on the night, where she fought against Cristina Prieto from the 309 Phuang Malai Gym. Aideen is only just back from her trip to Bangkok, Thailand where she won an Amateur World Championships Silver medal.

However, when she arrived home she was given an even bigger surprise by becoming the recipient of the Echo Women In sports Special Achievement award in the Metropole Hotel.

“Aideen kicked off her first C class/Pro Thaiboxing action in style fight against an experienced Cristina Prieto from 309 Gym Dublin and it proved to be a massive crowd pleaser.

“The girls set a ferocious pace from the off, however, Aideen was super sharp in all of her exchanges, raining down heavy body kicks, heavy boxing and sharp knee exchanges to her opponent.

"Although Prieto proved dangerous with her heavy hands, Mullins was by far the sharpest boxer and she out worked her in every round for unanimous points victory."

Aideen, who was also the 2023 Muay Thai of the year certainly didn’t looked fazed in her first professional bout and she now looks forward to some more exciting times for 2024.

“The rest of card featured top international and domestic action from gyms all across the country, and I’m sure every supporter went home happy,” Martin added.

Siam Warriors returns on April 7th for their 20th Anniversary Event at St Finbarr's GAA Hall.
