PATRICIAN Academy are through to the semi-finals of the Corn Uí Mhuirí for the first time since 1998 after a four-point victory over Coláiste na Sceilge in Banteer on Tuesday afternoon.

Victory for the Mallow School has set up a huge semi-final tie with CBS Tralee, managed by Kerry legend Marc Ó Sé.

The Mallow men started the brighter of the two, but it was the Kerry side who took the lead from a free by Emmet Daly.

The Valentia man doubled his side's tally from play just two minutes later.

Patrician Academy was not fazed at going behind early, and their persistence paid off with Ben O’Shea and Cathal Mullins equalising from frees.

The conditions were tricky, and the first major moment of the game came from an attempted point from range by Mallow which held up in the wind and caught out goalkeeper David Murphy, as the bounce favoured Mullins who fisted home to give his side their first lead.

The Kerry school really struggled to settle down, conceding another score to O’Shea from a free, but got themselves back into the game through Shane Goggin who smashed home off his left to raise their first green flag of the day, once again taking advantage of a kick out error.

Patrician Academy began to pull away in the latter stages of the half.

O’Shea’s fifth and sixth of the tie along with Padraig Britton coming up from wingback helped the Mallow side into a three-point lead at the break, 1-8 to-1-5.

The Mallow school kept their opponents at arm’s length in the second half. Mullins with two scores helped push Mallow four points clear with just over 10 to play.

Coláiste na Sceilge came roaring back in the final stages, Daly, Conor O’Shea and a huge 45 from keeper Murphy made reduced the gap to a single point.

Despite the late push, Patrician Academy held the ball well, and with the clock in the red, Dylan O’Connell iced the cake with a goal to secure the win late on.
