IT was a tough weekend at the office for the Cork teams in the Munster Snooker Team Championships at the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney.
However, Ross Bulman (Youghal CYMS) played some fantastic snooker to win the Pauline Greer and Liam O'Connor Memorial Flier, beating fellow Cork player Leone Crowley (Shooters Shed) in an exciting final.
It all got underway on Thursday evening and both Bulman and Crowley impressed, beating some very talented players along the way. Bulman dug deep to beat Mark Tuite (Cue Club Killarney) to reach the final, while Crowley knocked out Youghal CYMS player Aaron Tobin in his semi-final, knocking in a fantastic 134 in the deciding frame.
The final itself got underway after 11pm on Saturday night.
Both players displayed plenty of class in the early frames with Crowley leading by 2 frames to 1, however, Bulman delivered a magnificent 104 break to level the match at 2 all.
In the final frame decider, it was the Youghal man who came out on top, winning the 74-player event.
Bulman will have high hopes for the coming year as he chases that magical professional tour card ticket.
Leone Crowley is a rising star in the snooker ranks and he's one to watch going forward.
It was a weekend to remember for the New Insitute Snooker Club in Nenagh as they completed the Munster Premier and Munster B Snooker Championship double.
The Crucible Club were among the favourites for outright glory in the Premier Championship but they came up short in a close and brilliant contest in the semi-finals against the New Institute.
Defending Champions Youghal CYMS were defeated in a final frame decider against the Club Club Killarney.
Aaron Tobin was the first to win for the Seasiders and then Adam Bulman leveled the match after digging deep to deny Derry O'Sullivan in another exciting contest. Jason Waters had scored for the hosts against Adam Fitzgerald, while John Friel had proved too strong for Conor Kennedy. It all came down to Ross Bulman and Mark Tuite on Table 1 and it was Tuite who pulled out all the stops when coming from two frames down to beat Bulman on the pink and send the Cue Club Killarney into the final.
In the final, the New Institue Club from Nenagh proved too strong, and in truth, they ran out comfortable winners.
New Institure B made it a weekend to remember when winning the Munster B Championship.
In terms of Cork Snooker, all eyes will turn to the Douglas Roofing Munster Snooker Intermediate Event number 2 which will get underway on the 17th of February.
