John Meyler and Micheál O’Sullivan have been confirmed as the respective Cork minor hurling and football managers for 2024.

For the past number of years, Cork have sought to have a smooth pathway whereby Rebel Óg under-age co-ordinators come up through the age-grades with the game group of players and bring them to minor level.

Meyler and O’Sullivan have been involved with the respective groups since U15 levels and their appointments were rubber-stamped at the monthly meeting of Cork County Board in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Vincent Hurley (Courcey Rovers), Seánie McGrath (Glen Rovers), Mike Mulcahy (Lisgoold), Pádraig O’Sullvan (Brian Dillons) and Peter Sykes (Ballyhooly) will the hurling selectors while Haulie O’Neill (Clonakilty), Pat Mackey (Youghal), Jimmy Thompson (Aghabullogue) and Michael Shields (St Finbarr’s) are in the football backroom.

A native of Wexford, Meyler transferred to Cork after staying in the area following his time in UCC. He won an All-Ireland medal in 1986 as well as seven county titles with St Finbarr’s – five hurling and two football – and captaining the club to win the 1987 All-Ireland Club SFC.

He served as a senior selector under Bertie Óg Murphy as well as managing Kerry and Wexford before taking the Cork U21 reins for 2017, when he was also a senior selector under Kieran Kingston. After Kingston’s departure, Meyler became senior manager, leading Cork to the retention of the Munster SHC in 2018. He has also enjoyed success at club level with a variety of teams.

Rosscarbery man ‘Haulie’ O’Sullivan was part of the Cork team that won the Munster football title in 1999 and remained part of the panel until 2004. As a player, he was central to Carbery Rangers ascending from junior level to senior in a short space of time before then becoming perennial challengers. Prior to that, he captained the Carbery divisional team to win the county championship in 2004.

Following his retirement, he had two stints as Ross manager, taking them to the 2014 county SFC final. He has also coached Dohenys as well as teams at various levels in Clonakilty Community College, where he teaches.
