ADRIGOLE are through to a Bons Secours IAFC semi-final against Mitchelstown after digging out a win on Saturday.

At the end of a dour low-scoring encounter on an Inchigeelagh pitch that stood up well to the test, the Beara side's greater potency in attack made all the difference. At the break they led 0-3 to 0-2, with Blake Murphy accounting for the Saints' scores.

When Wayne Long got in on the scoring act three minutes after the interval it appeared as if the city side might up the ante, but Adrigole went back in front in the 39th minute when David Harrington pointed from an acute angle and thereafter, were never headed.

Even though Murphy accounted for most of Vincent's scores, he was generally well marshalled by a solid Adrigole defence that had Concubhar Harrington, wearing number 14, as an extra-marker. It didn’t appear as if this move affected their attack in the early stages after Paul O’Sullivan opened the scoring. Cian O’Sé followed up and then Seán O’Shea converted a free.

However, Adrigole were to wait 27 minutes for their next score and in the interim Vincent’s, with Anthony Harte and Kane Murphy ever willing to join in attack, clawed their way into contention. It took some heroic Adrigole defending to prevent them from goaling before a couple of points from Blake Murphy.

Wayne Long had his say with a fine equalising score to start the second half during which the Adrigole defence was again tested but refused to yield. Harrington hit their fourth point, under pressure and Ben O’Sullivan added another after his effort was tipped over by Darragh Clarke.

The Saints made it a one-point game once more when subs Gerard Kelleher got in on the scoring act with just five minutes remaining. Midfielders Cathal and Niall O’Sullivan, along with a solid half-back division drove Adrigole on to finish strongly and late points from Harrington and a Kevin Goggin free, gave them the win, with Murphy converting a late placed ball in vain.
