THREE Cork girls played their part last night as the Ireland U18 women's basketball team made it four wins from four games and secured their spot in the quarter-final at the 2017 FIBA U18 European Championships in Dublin with a 63-49 point win over Great Britain.

Coach Tommy O'Mahony's side has now topped Group D with just one game left to play against Ukraine tonight.

Louise Scannell, Amy Murphy, and Annaliese Murphy hit 13 points between them at the sold-out National Basketball Arena and all three will figure again tonight when they play their last pool game before the quarter-final at the weekend.

Meanwhile, the Ireland U16 men’s team which contains two Cork lads, Eoin Lehane from Blue Demons and Andrew O'Connor from Ballincollig, flew to Bulgaria to kick off their FIBA U16 Men’s European Championship Division B which sees their first game tip in on Thursday.
