Imokilly 0-24 Carbery 0-10

CHAMPIONS Imokilly are through to the last phase of the SHC Colleges and Divisions section as they defeated a spirited Carbery side 0-24 to 0-10 at Pairc Uí Rinn.

The three-in-a-row chasing division enjoyed an impressive victory against Carrigdhoun by a score of 0-31 to 1-13 at this venue last week and carried that form through here, even without Seamus Harnedy and long-term absentee Colm Spillane.

Carbery had defeated Avondhu 2-16 to 0-18 to get through but couldn't cope with the step up in quality against Fergal Condon's charges, who brought Declan Dalton into the line-up after injury and the Fr O'Neill's club man duly finished as top-scorer.

The Lawton brothers Brian and Barry were on song here too while Mark O'Keeffe fired over 0-3 from midfield.

Imokilly opened the scoring with a point from Paudie O’Sullivan but Carbery hit back through a point from Darragh Coakley. The favourites threatened to pull away as Dan Mangan and Brian Lawton spilt the uprights but again Carbery, to their credit, responded perfectly as they levelled the scores thanks to Gearóid O’Donovan and an excellent John Michael O’Callaghan free.

But the game swung in Imokilly’s favour midway through the first half as Carbery were reduced to 14 men when corner-forward Kevin O’Donovan was sent off following an off-the-ball incident.

Scores from Declan Dalton and Brian Lawton saw Imokilly retake the lead before Paudie Butler quickly reduced Carbery’s deficit to the minimum in the 20th minute, 0-5 to 0-4.

And after seven minutes without a score from either side, Imokilly soon outscored their rivals seven points to three to see them lead at the break 0-12 to 0-7.

They continued to dominate the second half and excellent displays from Barry Lawton, Dalton and O’Keeffe ensured the secured an impressive 14-point win.
