Clonakilty 2-18 Kinsale 1-12

CLONAKILTY had enough to see off Kinsale in this JAHC quarter-final clash.

In what would generally be better known as a football area, Clonakilty proved they are more than capable hurlers during this showing and produced a performance full of grit and desire.

It was the men from Clon that were to commence the brighter of the pair and got a number of well-taken scores in the opening stages.

David Lowney has his scoring radar most certainly on in the opening stages, including through some accurately taken placed efforts.

Tom Clancy and Martin Scally also were to score opening stage pointed efforts for Clonakilty, with Kinsale getting off the mark through Sean O’Brien and Brian Coughlan efforts.

Clonakilty were to strike for the back of the net just past the quarter of an hour mark. Timmy Anglin was to slot the ball home cooly, after showing great initial composure to create space for himself to shoot.

Although Kinsale added to their opening half scoring tally through points by John O’Brien.

Clonakilty were to hold a seven-point advantage at the half time break.

Kinsale got an early second-half score, as Clon were then to go down to 14 men when Scally was dismissed.

When O’Brien slotted home a Kinsale penalty midway through the second half they hoped a fightback might be on.

But Clonakilty were not knocked off course here and successfully saw the job out.

Clon were to find the net for a second time through an Anglin finish.

While they were to get some neat second-half points courtesy of the likes of Tiernan O’Connell, Lowney, Donagh Shorten and Cian O’Donovan.

Clonakilty will be buoyed by this display and result. They will be seeking to secure championship glory now over the coming weeks.
