Glen camogie ace should be enjoying her honeymoon but is instead running in club Marymount fundraiser
Karen O'Connell, Glen Rovers, tries to hold off Rachel Myers, St Finbarr's, in the camogie league final replay.

AS the sporting lockdown continues, clubs across Cork are working hard to keep their players going and also raising vital funds for charity.

Glen Rovers' camogie team, in support of the Cork hurlers efforts in aid of Marymount last weekend, are completing 5k runs on Bank Holiday Saturday.

The runners are paired off in teams of eight and there will be 48 going out at the same on their own, within 2k of their homes. They will be timing themselves to find the fastest group in the club.

Senior camogie corner-back Karen O’Connell and fiance Cian Harrington should be enjoying their honeymoon on the beaches of the Maldives this weekend, as they were due to get married last weekend.

Instead they will be running 5k around the garden of their home after Covid-19 saw plans for their big day postponed.

The players and mentors Tara Cunningham, David Busteed and Brendan O'Driscoll came up with the idea. Between them they'll complete the same as six marathons: 252k.

Many other club officials, parents and families are joining in the fun, along with some of the Glen Rovers hurlers, including David Noonan, from his current base in the USA.

Anyone interested in getting involved can check out the Glen Rovers Camogie Club social media.
