A Cork syndicate is €5.6m richer after winning the Lotto jackpot prize, with hopes of now going on a Mediterranean cruise.

The group claimed the jackpot prize after purchasing a Quick Pick ticket during a shopping trip in Mahon Point earlier this month.

The head of the syndicate had been browsing for a book at Eason's in the shopping centre before adding the ticket.

It has now come to light that the group have won a whopping €5,664,896 in total during the Lotto prize - becoming the first winner since the new game changes were introduced in September.

"We got the numbers up and started checking them one by one," the head of the syndicate said.

"As they kept matching, it slowly started to sink in that something unbelievable was happening.

"I sent a message into the group chat, and it just erupted - our phones wouldn't stop buzzing from phone calls to messages. Everyone was in complete disbelief," they added.

The syndicate now hope to take their dream Mediterranean cruise, and spend time with friends and family as part of their win.
