Midleton man indicates guilty plea to assault on female staff member in Cork city café

A 24-year-old Midleton man facing charges including assault causing harm to a young woman working at a café in Cork city and assaulting two men on the same occasion has signed pleas of guilty to all charges against him.
Defence solicitor Don Ryan said at Cork District Court when the case was called that Alan O’Leary of 49 Avoncore Place, Midleton, was signing guilty pleas.
The charges relate to an alleged incident at Bean & Leaf on Grand Parade in Cork, shortly after 6am on December 12 2025.
Alan O’Leary has now admitted assaulting a woman causing her harm, contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act. He confessed to similar offences in respect of two men. The fourth offence was of causing criminal damage at the Bean & Leaf premises. That charge refers specifically to €700 worth of damage to sink plumbing at the property.
Judge David Waters gave the young man the alibi warning which requires him to give the State certain notices if he is relying on such a defence.
The case was then sent forward, on the application of Sergeant Gearóid Davis, for sentencing at the sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court commencing on October 27.
