The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed trial by indictment at Cork Circuit Criminal Court in the case against a man accused of having heroin at his home at Model Farm Road in Cork last December.
Sergeant David Fleming said at Cork District Court that the DPP directed trial by judge and jury.
Dominic Smyth, aged 51, of Greenfields, Leesdale, Cork, is charged with possession of
diamorphine (heroin) and having drugs for the purpose of sale or supply where the alleged value of the drugs is over €7,000.
He is also charged with having a much smaller amount of cannabis for sale or supply on the same occasion on December 2, 2025.
Solicitor Joseph Cuddigan applied for a copy of prosecution statements so that the defence could decide if Mr Smyth will enter a signed plea of guilty or if the case will be contested.
Judge David Waters adjourned the case until November 9 for that purpose.
