Cork author Cónal Creedon is to present a series of lectures in Portugal to mark the Irish presidency of the EU.

Mr Creedon’s speaking tour begins today at the University of Lisbon.

Tomorrow, he will travel to University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro in Vila Real, and on Thursday the University of Porto.

Mr Creedon has presented lectures at venues across the world. “It’s a huge privilege to be invited to speak at universities and conferences. It has become a significant aspect of what I do,” he said.

“I was very fortunate to receive international recognition in recent years and that seems to have fuelled interest in my work beyond the shores of Ireland.”

His lectures always come back to the “little spaghetti bowl of streets where I live, here in downtown Cork city”.

“My continued forensic exploration of my local heritage and culture reveals and unlocks the universal nature of the human condition,” he said.
